A birthday honor? Doubtful. I'm still thinking that the flyover is a tribute to a graduating class at the Academy or a funeral for a noteworthy officer of high rank. Kirk played a major role in the defeat of Nero and the Narada in the Battle of Earth and he's a hero....but I don't think birthdays warrant this kind of gathering and a full-blown flyover. So he became the captain of a ship that was, at the time, almost entirely piloted by cadets who repeatedly showed their lack of experience to do what they were doing. How does that translate to Starfleet doing flyovers for his birthday? Connect the dots for me here.

Okay, so here are the Tweets so far describing what Faraci saw of the trailer at Butt-Numb-A-Thon:

Trailer opens with Pike VO, telling Kirk he has courage but no humility, and someday that will get him and his crew killed.

Full STAR TREK trailer indicates hands against glass scene is actually Spock and Cumberbatch. If he's Sybock... Well, kudos.

That said, Cumberbatch does NOT have Vulcan ears. Hands against glass scene seems to be Cumby in the brig.

Hahaha. They are totally going to capture him halfway through. Just like DARK KNIGHT/AVENGERS/SKYFALL.

Oh yeah: there's space stuff in the full TREK trailer. Space combat. Guy in a space suit zooming around.

Well Cumberbatch's character still doesn't have pointed ears and considering Sybok was pure Vulcan that would seem to be a problem.
