What worked in the movie? Pretty much anytime they focused on Martin Freeman as Bilbo. Unfortunately, for a film titled "The Hobbit" there was precious little of that. Too much LOTR tie-in crap, and too many rambling cartoon action sequences that just plain weren't engaging. It's not that it was an entirely bad movie, but, it's the kind of movie where it lived up to my fears rather than my hopes.
