Viper Mk III (mild B&C spoilers)

Introduced in Blood and Chrome. Very similar to the Mk II so I didn't spot it at first. The fuselage seems more bulky, the cockpit canopy seems more rounded and the wings slightly larger.

Didn't think we'd see anything else but I thought this was a nice easter egg considering it'll probably be the last BSG we'll see for a while.

Does raise the question why Mk IIs are still being used in Razor...

It does seem to be a bit of a continuity error with both Razor and
the pilot, since Adama was supposed to have flown a Mk. II
durring the war...but in the pilot we saw the saw a Mk. II that
Adama flew durring the war...yet in Razor was saw him ditch
his viper on that planet at the end of the war...bailing out...so
it seems like his viper was destroyed...

Then again, in B&C Adama doesn't even have a viper. But anyway,
the continuity about what Adama flew in the war already seemed
a bit muddled before B&C...

Depends what happened to the Viper. On the off chance it soft landed it might've been wrecked but intact.

Could have been rebuilt by some Cylon War enthusiast then left on Sagittaron.

Well, to be fair Voyager has shown time and time again that ANYTHING can be rebuilt..

Bunch of possible reasons: attrition, airframe fatigue, not enough IIIs to go to all squadrons. Real world, we had two squadrons of A-7s still flying in the Gulf even though the Hornet had entered service 8 years early. More recently, Navy/Marine F/A-18 squadrons have switched from C models to A+ because the Alpha+ had more airframe life than the charlie stockpile. Plus, newer pilots tend to get older gear.

Depends on how unique the tail numbers are. If they can be reassigned then it's a done deal.

Adama was surprised someone found her in the mini series but not to the extent that 'last time I saw it I pretty much munted her'.

Adama also talked about flying a raptor as well on the series. I am sure he probably flew different Vipers, and they just happened to find one with a tail number he did happen to fly and that was the one they restored.

How do we know it is a MK3 Viper? Was it mentioned on screen? How do we know its not a MK2 variant.

Maybe again the MKIIIs were too advanced and their computers were more susceptible to Cylon viruses. That's why they went back to the MKII. Think about the producer's idea behind this and Caprica. They lived in a more advanced time before nuBSG.

Yeah, that's the sense that I get as well. Leading up to the war, human technology was more advanced. During the war, they tried to keep up with the Cylons in order to fight them. After the war, having learned their lesson, they dialed it back, but then they became complacent and comfortable, so they began making advances again. The Cylons then took their opportunity and exploited it.

I don't think it was so much "more advanced Technology" they dialed back on, it was Computer Networking they dialed back on (which in turn often caused them to have to abandon advances not supported by non-networked Tech). The Networking was the real problem, because it could be exploited by the Cylons

^ That has always been my thought as well. IIRC, Adama ordered that all networking technology be stripped from the Galactica because of that very thing. They didn't completely roll back all technology.

I think there was probably some fear over how technology had almost been (and finally was) their undoing and a regression to a less advanced era might have been the preference of the people of the colonies. By nuBSG's time they were starting to progress forward in technology again as the young forgot and people like Adama were considered to be stuck in the past with their fears.
