Jessica Chastain: Lady of the Week #4 (Jan. 2013)

Jessica Chastain
(Mama, Zero Dark Thirty, The Tree of Life)
Thumbs up= Thumbs down= Thumbs sideways=

At an early age, Jessica Chastain (born Jessica Howard) performed in productions of Shakespeare’s works around the San Francisco Bay area. At the urging of another actor in Romeo and Juliet, Chastain applied to Juilliard and was accepted, assisted by the help of a scholarship founded by Juilliard alum Robin Williams. During Chastain’s last year at Juilliard, producer John Wells attended an acting showcase in which Chastain was performing. He liked what he saw and signed her to a 12-month holding contract, in the hopes of finding a place for her in his upcoming shows. She ended up getting roles on Wells’ ER and on Dark Shadows, Law & Order: Trial by Jury, and a host of other shows. 2011 was her breakout year with an Best Supporting Oscar nomination for The Help and a starring role in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life.
Mama is a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed. As a woman (Jessica Chastain) tries to reintroduce her lover's (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) traumatized nieces to a normal life, disturbing questions and occurrences suggest that a supernatural presence has followed the girls to her home.

Week #1 (Jan.): Kelly Monaco

There was a Dark Shadows TV movie in 2005. How did I not know this? Or was it so bad that I've blocked it out?

Anyway, Jessica is way too glam in most of those pictures, but when she's normal she is indeed a sexy redhead. So Thumbs Up.

That the one that contributed to cancelling Angel? Wow, I thought it never made it to filming.

I first heard about her around the time she was doing press for The Tree of Life at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

She seemed a bit haughty and full of herself at the time, but I've since taken a liking to her. I've seen her in The Tree of Life and Zero Dark Thirty so far. And apparently I've seen her on two shows... Journeyman and Close to Home, but I don't remember her from either one.

Looks like she's tied with Jennifer Lawrence as the current "It Girl" and it's impressive how well her career is going. She even had to drop out of Iron Man 3 and Diana because of scheduling conflicts. That's a shame. She's also on Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People list.

Sorry, y'all, I'm not seein' it. I don't find her face particularly attractive and she's scrawny.

(born Jessica Howard)
I've seen people joke that she's Ron Howard's daughter. I wondered where "Chastain" came from. Turns out it was her mother's maiden name.

I've also seen a lot of talk about her age. Here's a quote from her...

I don’t like revealing how old I am. I played a teenager in a movie recently and Brad Pitt’s wife in another so I like to think I can be any age I need to be - Source
A sensible plan, but curiosity among fans put her at 35. Here's her yearbook photo from 1995…

UP

You know not taking the role in IM3 could prove to be good thing, outside her ZDT praise.
Cause now, if Paltrow doesn't have an interest in coming back for more outings in either IM solo or Avengers films then Jessica could step right in imo.

I hope she was more convincing than some of the Beverly Hills 90210 cast

I saw her on Jon Stewart the other night and she seemed smart and funny as well as being attractive. Any one of those qualities is nice but when you get all three going it's great.

Ever since she popped up on the radar i've thought she was a substitute Amy Adams.

I don't say "Poor man's" because anyone that can still get Chastine isn't poor or have bad luck.
