I don't think it's possible for JJ to Direct both, Disney wants a SW movie in 2015, Paramount almost certainly will move Heaven and Earth to hit 2016 for the Anniversary

Promotion of Paramount movies is ultimately the right of Paramount, not the director. He can maintain secrecy all he likes... until he hands over the movie. Paramount's marketing department will promote this movie, as they do all of Paramount's movies.

Looking back to 2008, for a little perspective:

Trailer premiered on official website on November 17, 10AM Eastern (a Monday morning,) having been announced a few days earlier. The first still picture of the new Enterprise dropped on November 11. The first real article (including the picture of the Kelvin) came October 19. Before that, we'd had the Comic-Con promo posters, a few spy pics from location shoots at Long Beach power station, CSUN, Pastoria energy facility, Irvine MCAS and Dodger Stadium, and very little else - not that different from where we stand right now with respect to the next movie.
