Turhan Bey has Passed Away

Babylon 5 has lost another actor, Turhan Bey, who played the Centauri Emperor as well as the Minbari Turval.

Also, starred in many classic Technicolor films.

He did have a long and apparently happy life and made it to 90 years old

Ohmigod. I had no idea he was still alive.

I remember him best as the sinister Priest of Karnak in The Mummy's Tomb.

I always feel a little guilty when that's my reaction...

Given that The Mummy's Tomb came out in 1942, I think I can be forgiven my surprise!

Clearly, he had a secret stash of tana leaves . . ..

Re: Turhan Bey has Passed Away

I've seen 2 of his roles in the Arabian Knights movies, and his two roles in Babylon 5, and a couple other roles, and he always seemed like such a sweet and humble gentle man. He was a suave gentle hottie when he was young, and a suave gentle Father/Grandfather in his later years

Just finished watching The Comng of Shadows and Learning Curve. I just really, really like the man portrayed in those two episodes and earlier characters I've seen him play, there is just such a magnetism to such a gentle soul he shows, IMHO, of course.

I think you're not alone in that opinion. Back in the day, JMS posted the cast/crew's reaction to Bey's character dying:
So I did, and we cast him, and everyone on the set loved him...to the point that, at the end of the shoot, they were saying, "You BASTARD, how could you bring this WONDERFUL man in here and then KILL HIM OFF SO WE CAN'T HAVE HIM BACK?!"
