Re: Any old timers still around?

I'm a bit early, I know, but I am not sure when I'll have the time again to be online, so:

Merry Christmas to all my fellow oldtimers!!

And to those who are on my annual card and cookie mailing list: my sincere appologies. I haven't forgotten about you, only I am terribly behind schedule. First I cut my finger so badly that I couldn't bake cookies, then I got caught by a mean cold virus and didn't want to start a global epidemic.
I'll bake the last cookies this afternoon, evening and propably night and my mail will get out first thing on Saturday. The cards and cookies should arrive in Europe after Cristmas but before New Year, outside of Europe between New Year and Epiphany. Sorry abut the delay! *hugs*

Matter/Energy is never created or destroyed. It just changes form.

Ah, a fan of Helmholtz, are you? Actually, matter is destroyed (splitting atoms, for example). Only energy might possibly be eternal, provided that Newton's initial assumption was correct which has not yet been proven beyond doubt. So far it's only the generally accepted theory.

^Well, if energy is eternal, then the universe doesn't have a beginning. We can only say that the Big Bang led to the PRESENT STATE of the universe, but the universe is eternal. Or the multiverse is eternal. Or the ominiverse? This is heavy.

That's like saying if I cut my bacon sandwich up in to quarters it's no-longer a bacon sandwich.

I don't want to shit on your wedding, but seriously, matter/energy isn't ever destroyed. I'm not talking about just matter here. I'm talking about the total mass-ergy of a system. See right here.

Spitting an atom up or even changing protons in to neutrons (and positrons and neutrinos, i.e. beta radiation decay which changes the atomic number of an element) doesn't destroy it, it just changes its form. The total energy in a system remains constant, and the universe is a closed system. Mass is equivalent to energy. Ever heard of E=mc^2? So even when matter and antimatter annihilate producing energy (typically gamma ray photons) the total mass-energy of the system is unchanged, it just changes form.

BOOM.

Who are you anyway? I don't get this holiday names shit.

Nope, not even close. When I joined up and during the era of Enterprise this place was one of the most happening boards on the Internet. And all our most skilled and glorious trolls are long gone, replaced by fools and idiots who probably couldn't argue with a bag of kettle chips without getting their butts whooped and being banned within the first couple of days.
Ahh those were the days

I suppose I would be an old timer now, since I've got 10 years in.
