Researchers create a mammal entirely from stem cells...

Just watch, someday soon this will be used to breed Supersoldiers who go on to become Tyrants that try to conquer the world...

When they fail (as they are doomed to fail), we will exile them to a penal colony in Australia. They will then build a rocketship with cryogenic chambers and launch into space, never to be heard from again...

Until a Starship finds them, exiles them and 15 years later, must fight them one last time, resulting in the apparent death of a beloved alien character...

KHHHAAANNN!!!

Well, that pretty much obsoletes the requirement for egg cells, so reproductive therapists are going to make a fortune.

More conceptually, the breakthrough suggests that human babies might someday be born from tissue samples and cell lines alone — with no direct parent involved. There are clearly a host of ethical implications that need to be addressed before any of this can be allowed to happen.
Ethics, schmethics. If it can be done, it will.

I, for one, welcome our new synthetic overlords!

It was a friend of mine who achieved that mouse research. She wasn't half chuffed I can tell you. Anyway it wasn't easy and I wouldn't hold my breath about larger mammals being successfully generated.
