Re: TNG HD coming to Syfy (UK)

Well I've just skipped ahead on my Sky Guide and seen that TNG is starting on SyFy HD at 7.00pm this Monday. To add to the confusion, there's an episode on each night at 7 until next Friday!, which is as far as the guide will go at the moment.

They will soon run out of HD episodes that way, so I wondered if they will show season one, and then wait a bit till season two? Or maybe they'll just go as far as they can until they do run out of episodes, and then just loop back?

Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Assuming this post at syfy is written by a staff member, the episodes are broadcast in 4:3

Sure widescreen version would be great, but it all depends on how it was actually filmed, or rather more accuratly framed. That is to say is there elements in the 16:9 frame which shouldn't be there, cameras, equipment, crew etc...

More or less. It's slightly wider (and cropped) compared to the Bluray version. Maybe about 1cm difference each side on my 32" screen.

If my math is right*, (and assuming you are in a 1:1 mode on both of your inputs) that would make it about 1.38:1 aspect ratio... which seems like a completely unnecessary alteration.

* This assumes your HDTV dimensions are approx. 39.624 cm x 70.358 cm.

The implication is that CBS never made widescreen versions -- for all the reasons put forth in the Energized! doc on disc one of Season One.

Oh my god it's really glistening. Can't believe how slick it looks now. It's more than enough reason to start watching for the eight millionth time anyway.

The only annoying thing is I notice more these days with stuff like TND HD and whatever is that I should wear my glasses at home more.

I caught a bit of it too, and if anything i'd say the contrast was off. The darks looked pitch black. There was no detail at all in Picard's face in the opening shot, and no detail in the dark areas of the ship in the saucer section scene.

Apart from that, the ratio was 4:3. I imagine they're simply using the blu rays to play them.

CBS gave Syfy UK the gimped version of the Blurays.
