Well, I would change "Into" to just the word "In" - Star Trek: In Darkness. That way it plays better off of McCoy's line from the previous film, "Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence."
That is kind of cool.

ST:XIII could be Star Trek: In Silence

It's too vague and nebulous. Not particularly Trekish or grandiose sounding.

I felt sure To Boldly Go was a natural shoe-in. With or without Star Trek nearby for marketing purposes.

Not impressed by the title but it won't effect how the film will turn out.

This thread is probably an example of why they don't want to release details, even simple ones like the title.

I don't mind it that much. The only thing I wonder is what it implies for the story and tone.

I do think Star Trek: Darkness is better.
At least we could be asking people next year, "Did you catch STD?"

Hm... not so sure about that title.

How about "Trek 2 the Stars" instead?

Re: Star Trek 2 Has A New Title?

I can live with it. I kinda like it. Would've preferred something without "Star Trek" in the title that played off some Trek catchphrases, such as:

Where No Man Has Gone Before
The Final Frontier
Strange New World(s)
These Are The Voyages
To Boldly Go ...
Boldly Go

But I am very, very happy that they are trying to eliminate the damn colon.

I think you mean more like this:

Where No Man Has Star Trekked Before
The Star Trek Frontier
Strange New Star Treks
These Are the Star Treks
To Boldly Star Trek
Star Trekking

I suspect Lindelhof was involved in the title. Ugh.

Typo. I meant "without" and corrected my previous post.

I'm torn.

My first impression was - ugh, but the more I think about and consider everything it could encompass I then have a moment of embracing the title. Then I remember all the times Star Trek didn't live up to high expectations in the past and I'm back to, ugh, again.

Maybe it will be "Star Trekkin' 2...Darkness"

Seriously though, if a title of a movie is going to make it or break it, it's already failed.

That's what I thought, too. I would have gone with "To Boldly Go" if I was naming the film.

What could the "darkness" be? Perhaps the star desert surrounding Gothos?

Or the Zone of Darkness surrounding the Space Amoeba in "The Immunity Syndrome"?

(No, wait... that one was re-used already for TMP. Never mind!)
