She's a fairly well-known actress from Emmerdale and Waterloo Road, and her casting was announced some time ago and publicised widely.
That's kind of my point - I knew all along that a person called Jenna Louise Coleman is new companion Clara Oswin, I have seen pics of her filming, and I still didn't recognise her... so what chance has the casual viewer got to get what's such a "twist" (as even the Radio Times promised) about her? Until Xmas anyway...

Not bad. And unlike the last Dalek story it wasn't a two-parter missing the second part.
And, did the Doctor say that the nano-clouds doen's affect time-lords or not? because if it didn't, why didn't he give Amy his arm-band earlier..
because he knew Rory would sacrifice himself to save Amy. he had to 'fix' them.

Btw, this episode really does show how scared the Doctor is in front of the Daleks..like realllly scared..terrified almost.
I thought that it was an almost Troughtonesque level of Oh Noes. Can now kind of see where the people who say Smith is like Troughton are coming from.

Many would have recognised her, and I suppose that's who they were talking to.

A rather big chance. She's quite well-known, really.

A reasonable good start to the new series, the question is can they maintain the standard?

There's a better chance (depending on what BBCA shows in promos) that viewers in the US might be surprised when she later returns. She isn't well-known here and things like who the Doctor's next companion are don't get splashed all over every media.

It has to be said, she is also top class eye-candy. A good replacement for Karen Gillan for drooling over when the missus isn't looking!

"One for the dads", I believe, is the traditional job description.

I have to say initial I wasn't that keen, but I thought she showed potential to be a lot of fun tonight!

I thought she was great, I look forward to finding out how the doctor saves her or how she ends Dalekised.

So now that the Daleks have been Donna'd I wonder what future episodes will be like. Will the Doctor now be known as "that Doctor" that once trespassed on their ship? "Ex-term-inate that doc-tor!"

The only thing the modern Doctor has had over the Daleks is his reputation. He's relied on it heavily in recen encounters. I look forward to the next Dalek outing to see how he deals with them without that to fall back on.

Like with anything else she's only well known if you've seen shows she's been in.

Don't watch Emmerdale, I've only seen a few episodes of Waterloo Raod

So to me she would be a virtual unknown.
