Re: The All-New DALLAS!

Does this new one have the same(similar) opening theme music?

Re: The All-New DALLAS!

loved the cattle barons ball. It was always a highlight of the season in the origional. But didn't they used to dress up for it? but then that was the 80's any excuse for a nancy reagan ball gown.

Yeah, the opening credits have the same music and the "triptyct" visuals as the old, but without showing the characters. Here's a mega version of the old credits, edited with everyone who was ever in them. (I forgot Ian McShane was in this show!)

I forget, does Christopher know he's Suellen's biological nephew? Does everyone know?

The only major difference was the absence of the cast photos during the opening.
I missed those too. I hope they bring 'em back.

As for the scene with Ann, I wondered if she'd shot the guy in the back while fleeing, would that be okay by Texas law?
I was wondering the same thing. Shooting someone in the back across a field while they're running away is the exact situation I think of when "unreasonable force" comes to mind.

Watched the rest of the 2nd ep, hey it got better. But add Linda Grey to the "can't act any more" column with Patrick Duffy. Both of them seem very out of practice.

The way she's playing Sue Ellen is way too spacey, bug-eyed and drugged out for her to be a convincing gubernatorial candidate, even in Texas. I dimly recall Sue Ellen always being like that, but if she's become a force in politics, she had to have modified her behavior to fit her new career just to avoid scaring potential backers, nevermind voters. Yet another element that doesn't add up.

My biggest beef is the same with the original. Didn't feel too much like it was set in Texas.
From what I can tell, it looks like they're shooting in Texas this time. The flat plains/green grass/oak trees combo doesn't look very Californian to me.

As for the scene with Ann, I wondered if she'd shot the guy in the back while fleeing, would that be okay by Texas law? Sure looked like she was thinking about it.

The external locations are, but according to Texas Monthly, very little is being shot in Dallas. The production company made the city cough up about $300k to update their studio and yet they're bringing very little filming related revenue because they rarely film in the state.

Course, we have the state legislature to blame for part of that. They wouldn't pass a competitive film incentive package, so lots of productions are leaving the state.

Texas has a pretty generous form of the Castle doctrine, but if she shot him in the back as he fled, that's not going to allowed by the courts. But I'm sure the family could pay off the judge.

Re: The All-New DALLAS!

Plans for international distribution.

With nearly 7 million viewers tuning in for Wednesday night's U.S. premiere on TNT — the best in its time slot — Warner will roll out the new version of the classic soap opera to 170 countries around the world, many of them where the original series was hugely popular during its 1978-91 run.
It'll probably do great, but I'm surprised they haven't already done this. Sounds like they waited to see if it did well in America first. I thought international sales happened faster nowadays.

That painting was in a few places over the years. The house, Ewing Oil. I remember a scene with J.R. taking it with him as he leaves Ewing Oil (after Cliff Barnes took over).

On that, I remember John Ross saying something about Cliff Barnes being in charge of Ewing Oil. Didn't Bobby & Sue Ellen get control back in the first TV movie?

Are they ignoring the TV movies?

^ Maybe a lot has happened since 1998. Cliff is supposed to show up soon, so maybe we'll find out something.
