Want to introduce my girlfriend to Trek through TOS, where to start?

Through conversation my girlfriend has made it known to me that she wouldn't mind trying trek out, but due to the fact that she has little no interest in science-fiction otherwise I have been hesitant to show her an episode, lest it give her a poor first impression. To be honest there are some tedious episodes of TOS and TNG that I got through only by the virtue of fandom, and i'm a sci-fi/speculative fiction junkie.

Maybe that old adage about Trek being merely a western set in space might apply to some episodes, but certainly not all. I have compiled a list of episodes that I deem to be "necessary" in the viewing of trek, encapsulating the soul of what trek is and also written, and performed to a high standard. I don't want to bore her with stories that only serve to stroke the heart of a Trek diehard. Please share any experiences of having introduced a friend or loved one to trek and how you went about it? Also feel free to made additions or modifications to my WIP list:

Season 1:
Where No Man Has Gone Before
The Enemy Within
What Are Little Girls Made Of?
Dagger Of The Mind
The Corbomite Manuever
Balance of Terror
Shore Leave
Tomorrow Is Yesterday
Space Seed
A Taste Of Armageddon
This Side Of Paradise
The City On The Edge Of Forever

Season 2:
Amok Time
Mirror, Mirror
The Doomsday Machine
The Trouble With Tribbles
A Piece Of The Action
The Immunity Syndrome
Patterns of Force
The Ultimate Computer

Season 3:
The Enterprise Incident
The Paradise Syndrome
Spectre of the Gun
Plato's Stepchildren
The Tholian Web
All Our Yesterdays
Turnabout Intruder

Movies:
ST II
ST III
ST IV
ST V (Maybe?)
ST VI

^I was thinking about including "The Menagerie" but I wondered if it would be too long-winded for her tastes. Maybe i'll re-watch it and see how it flows.

I once introduced a girl to TOS with "The Conscience of the King" and she enjoyed it.

Can't do without "Journey To Babel."

You might want to rethink "Shore Leave." I'm fond of it, but I've known female friends to find it kinda sexist by modern standards. Think the Don Juan fantasy, the princess dress, the "Ruth" sexbot, and the giggly Vegas showgirls at the end . . .

And I've got to throw in a plug for "Conscience of the King" and "Journey to Babel," too.

But "Turnabout Intruder"? Good god, man, are you insane? Not even most Trekkies can stand that episode!

My first TOS episode was "By Any Other Name." It was interesting enough that I decided to watch more. Within 2 weeks I was hooked for life. That was back in 1975.

I wonder if someone seeing TOS for the first time today could ever understand what it means to long-time fans, because entertainment and the world itself have both changed so much since the show was made.

There was a long thread here recently by a fan of the spin-offs who watched every episode of TOS. She liked some, didn't like others, and at the end gave the impression that it was a finished project she would never revisit. At least, that's the sense I got.

Conscience of the King and Journey to Babel are in seeing as how they are getting multiple votes. Both solid episodes but neither originally struck out to me.

She doesn't subscribe to that notion of feminism where Shore Leave or Turnabout Intruder would offend her, in fact Turnabout Intruder was one that I gave her an offhand synopsis of and she wanted to know more lol.

I'd start her out with City On The Edge of Forever.

My vote would be The Corbomite Manuever, as the first regular production episode it's always felt a little more introductory than some of the others.

But it's not really a woman's episode. Most of this one is pure dude stuff.

Don't.

Shared interests just leads to contempt.

But if you must, you should show her the worst episode and see if she can keep a straight face.

Besides if you can make her revolted and despise the entire enterprise, you'll get your own man cave that locks from the outside.
