Re: One-year countdown thread!
They were filming at the National Ignition Facility. That's basically a couple football fields worth of big banks of modular looking stuff used for generating 192 lasers that feed into a huge sphere jokingly called the Death Star (it's ten meters in diameter). They're trying to achieve fusion. Don't know what the script needs it for, but I can imagine a lot of things that would look cool when compressed or taken from the right angle. Lots of visual possibilities. Lots of activity when they were there, too, with obviously places screened and roped off. |

Re: One-year countdown thread!
(Thanks, Temis!) It's gonna be so cool watching the movie and going "Oh, that's what so-and-so was talking about/thats why they're wearing those uniforms/that's why they're filming there"

http://trekmovie.com/2012/05/03/chec...ing-this-week/ Should be interesting to find out what they used. Lots of visual possibilities, as you say, and some of them pretty much unique to that location.

Re: One-year countdown thread!
I suspect the engine room will be a set this time around (apparently the sets are multilevel and interconnected this time, allowing a seamless walkthru shot between the bridge, the turbolift, the "plaza" and the sickbay), and there'll be zero explanation given as to why it looks different!

Re: One-year countdown thread!
I suspect it could be the engine room of another Federation ship (perhaps Peter Weller's ship? With Alice Eve and Benedict Cumberbatch as his senior staff?). The USS Kelvin engine room scenes were filmed in a disused power plant on Long Island.
