VOLTRON FORCE - First Season Complete

Last night the first-season finale of VOLTRON FORCE debuted on Nicktoons and nicktoons.com.

This post isn't an exhaustive review of the season's 26 episodes or of the season as a whole. I just wanted to say that this season was a lot of fun. The series' target demographic is six-year-old to ten-year-old boys, and the show succeeded not only in getting my eight-year-old inner boy of the 1980s hooked on the show, but also in capturing the interest of my thirty-six-year-old outer pseudo-grown-up.

VOLTRON FORCE has strong characterizations, humor, hip music, action, betrayal, hints of romance... and did I mention an enormous robot made up of five robot lions? Unlike the original show, the plots aren't formulaic, so you never know quite what to expect from episode to episode. The series is also refreshingly "light" in tone, compared to many other animated action shows targeted at children.

I loved VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE as a kid, and I very much like VOLTRON FORCE, too.

I look forward to the series' second season.

I'm looking forward to watching this on DVD when it debuts as I'm cable-less.

I did pick up all 8 seasons of the original though over Holiday Shopping '11 for some great prices.

I had thought there was going to be a toy line with this show. Never saw one.

As a fan of the original Voltron lion series, I found Voltron Force to be a huge letdown. It's nice to have CGI-rendered lions, but the characters are still shallow, the plots are geared for kids with short attention spans, and the cadets are annoying.

I liked Voltron Force much more than the original Voltron series (but that isn't a knock on the original, because I totally loved it as a kid). I was actually surprised with what they did with the cadets towards the end, because I was expecting the status quo not to change. I'm looking forward to a second season.

They're only just now taking preorders for a toyline based off the original series. I think the idea was to release that first and then a Voltron Force line later.

Thanks, I knew I thought I had recalled some newer designs on Voltron about the 'net at some point.

Re: VOLTRON FORCE - First Season Complete

I have some gripes with VOLTRON FORCE, but it's been a hell of a lot of fun to watch. I like that they started using the classic '80s theme during the formation sequence. I still get a chill down my spine when the lions form Voltron.
