Oh I get why HE overlooked it I just don't get why Starfleet allowed it. Can't have a relationship on a ship with a subordinate but you get to have one with a terrorist? Starfleet would have seen her as a huge security risk. It's not just some random ensign she's hooked up with.

In a real military they probably wouldn't have allowed it. Starfleet on the other hand is more like a quasi-military. They see themselves as explorers and scientists who moonlight as the military. And Cassidy was a private citizen who served her time, second chances and that good stuff. Plus they had to have been watching her.

I'm sure they were already watching Sisko above and beyond the usual watching in case he cracked and turned into some Bajoran nutter.

Exactly. They probably had all kinds of scenarios worked through for how to deal with him depending on what deep end he went off. Advising Bajor not to enter the Federation was probably pretty mild to some stuff they feared. After all look what happened to Dukat when he started messing around with religion.

If Ben wanted some of that fine chocolate ass, he had to go to prison, walking past the chain link fence with al the other female prisoners exercising in the yard cat calling him, and then politely wait in the communal sex trailer until the screws showed up with his girlfrend probably still handcuffed from the transit fully aware that it doesn't matter who he is, the security camera is not going to be turned off.

I saw the episode a few days ago.

Cassady was unsure if Ben even wanted to talk to her ever again.

She was nervous and was open tot he fact that he might immediately send her away.

I doubt they had talked since her trial.

It was a leap of faith that she went to see him, wishing that they could kick it off again.

That kiss.

That "hello" kiss scared the hell out of her.

Becuase she was not expecting it.

It's probably the complete opposite of the confrontation she expected which was yelling and closure.

her ship must have been impounded.

Her pilots licences would have been scrapped.

And she never would have gotten a new contract with an ally of the Federation, or the Federation again if she did get a new ship.

She would have been on a bunch of lists.

Cassaday would not have been allowed in Ops without an armed escort.

I really would have liked to have seen an episode explaining how much her life had changed post prison now that she was untrustworthy.

Because logically all it seemed she had left that wasn't ashes was Ben Sisko.

And if he hadn't been drunk when she showed up, he would have told her to go away.

To be fair she was hauling cargo for Bajor after she got out, and I guess she can staple Emissary's squeeze to her job application and get rubber stamped no matter what.

It would have been nice to see her provide some closure to the Maquis arc at the very least as one of the "survivors" of the rebellion. Or even find out her motivations for doing it.

I would have liked to have seen something of his thought process during that year. How did he come to terms with her helping the Maquis, an organization he had absolutely no sympathy for? I'm wondering if he was looking towards the day of her release wondering if the relationship could be renewed. I kind of see him as compartmentalizing her and not dealing or thinking on those terms until she either showed up or the date of her release drew near.

Definitely compartmentalized it. Too hard basket, get on with work and being the Emissary and.. oh shit a year's gone by and my motherless son is like, "DAD! UR WOMAN IS HERE!!"

Allowing a third to wander off would have been bad form from Sisko senior.
