So, Dreamworks is remaking "The Avengers"

Shall we count the ways?

- Pre-established heroes with different powers
- A homogenous, dark alien invasion threat
- A raspy British villain
- Atmospheric disturbances in the sky, presumably opening portals to other worlds
- A tricked-out aerial vehicle for our heroes
- In 3D!
- You can bet your butt the sequel script is in the works.

It's called Rise of the Guardians, not to be confused with Legend of the Guardians or any of the dozen other "Rise of the..." movies to have come out in the past ten years.

Trailer here. Caution:

... Some assembly required.

This looks pretty awesome.

And I think you have Avengers on the brain.

Eh, I think the movie looks sort-of dumb.

And did Santa have freaking prison tats?!

Eh, I'd say it's about time there's a big-screen Santa who isn't a Yank. Good choice there. Heck, maybe it's shades of Rare Exports?

Why is the trailer narrated by that Londo Mollari character from Babylon 5?

Meh, nothing new. PIXAR already remade the Fantastic Four as The Incredibles.

Looks like fun. Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman as superheroes, produced by Guillermo del Toro? Sold.

For a second, I thought you meant that we were getting a new movie about Steed and Emma . . ..

Interesting concept. But I'm so over movies with "Rise" in the title.

I kept thinking that for the longest time in the run-up to the big Avengers movie. I'd click a thread and be "oh right, that Avengers....".

When the villain spoke about his army, I fully expected one of the heroes to counter with "We have a Hulk".

I got a baffled look from the cashier when I just happened to wear my old AVENGERS tee-shirt to the grocery store the other day. She was clearly wondering where Iron Man and the Hulk were--and who the guy in the bowler hat was!
