Lucy Liu cast as Watson in CBS' Sherlock Holmes show

What's gonna distinguish this from The Mentalist? CBS is not the network to do anything clever or genre, I don't think.

True, it's bound to pale next to Sherlock, but I'll give it a look if it goes to series. Hey, now that House is ending, maybe some of its staffers could join this show and write an even more direct pastiche of Sherlock Holmes.

Dear Hollywood Department of Riffing on Sherlock Holmes:

Please make a new adaptation of The Seven-Per-Cent Solution that's actually faithful to Meyer's book (and yes, I know he voluntarily changed his own story in his own screenplay adaptation, but it was still a change for the worse), or, alternatively, shut the hell up. Or, don't. Doesn't really bother me, actually. But please do make that 7PCS movie, and while Williamson gave a fine performance, before you try to cast Daniel Craig, please recall that Holmes is not blond.

I also seem to remember an old tv pilot, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, in which Holmes awoke from suspended animation and teamed up with Watson's great-grandaughter or something.

So there's precedent!

I also remember watching a few episodes of an animated series, Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century in which the preserved body of Sherlock Holmes is revived and rejuvenated in order to take on a clone of Moriarty. He teams up with Lestrade's female descendant, as well as a robot who develops the personality of Watson having had its memory uploaded with Watson's journals.

As TV Tropes put it, not to be confused with Sherlock Holmes in the 21st Century.

Traditionally James Bond wasn't blond either, though that worked out all right.

Having said that, I don't see Craig as Holmes.
