Or the source is just old since the film was 2010.
Or, you know, just wrong.
Well, finally found time to watch the Blu-Ray of the 2010 live-action SBY feature film I mentioned in a post above, and yes, the 5.1 English audio track is 100% dubbed into English (looks like the dubbing itself was done by Funimation. IMO they did a good job too.) It still has English subtitles available too on the Japanese track if you don't like your stuff dubbed.

But yeah, if the lead actor had a clause stating they couldn't dub his voice; either he negotiated another agreement that allowed it, it was only for X time, and said time has expired; or the source reporting that fact was mis-informed.

A word has come up from Japan in relation to the Yamato 2199 film to be released in December.

Just one word:

"GATLANTIS"

The White Comet Empire is coming....

Nice! Will they be making a series out of this as well or are they going the Saraba, Yamato route, I wonder?

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

The news says they are not doing this as another Saraba, Yamato. Probably because it is still suppose to take place in the year 2199.

It would make sense if they are using this film as a bridge between the events of the first series and the second series...especially when it comes to what happened to Gamilas and Dessler.

One can hope - I'd love to see their take on the Comet Empire storyline - and I'd love to see an updated Andromeda Class ship with the dual wave motion guns.

It will still be a while before they can get to a second series. Assuming they've done some planning and use the film as a method of making art assets for the show, they still will take a little bit to write and then produce. I'd guess 2016? Maybe 2015.

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

The evidence is conclusive. Gatlantis is coming.

First a condensed film for the 2199 plot in October, then "Ark of the Stars" in December.

Completely new feature film
Space Battleship Yamato 2199 "Ark of the Stars"

A hidden story from the year 2199 is revealed now!...
In 2199, Yamato was departing from the Large Magellanic Cloud.
Calm air flowed between the crew, who had received the "Cosmo Reverse System."
At the edge of the Large Magellanic Cloud, Yamato encountered a mysterious fleet that suddenly appeared.
They were called "Gatlantis" and demanded that Yamato be handed over.
Yamato was in a hurry to return to Earth and avoid combat.
But an unknown entity appeared to block their path.

Yamato warped out in the nick of time, but in front of their eyes appeared the figure of a planet floating in a strangely-colored (light grey) space…

Coming December 6 (Saturday)!

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Yeah, it's weird that they're fitting in an adventure in between what is episode 25 and 26, but hey, if you want to make a movie on the cheap, what better way than to do a recap + new footage?

The first film in October will be the recap film that will be between 2 and 3 hours long.
http://yamato2199.net/about/story_b.html

Then in December there will be a new film that might be 2 hours long (though probably only 90 minutes long. We don't have a run time yet). That will tell a tale that takes place sometime between episode 24 and 25. That is roughly a two month spread between the episodes as that is the voyage between Iscandar and Balun. So they have time for an adventure.

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

I'm going to assume that the first film will lead into the second film. If the first film just ends at the return to Earth, then... well, it sort of makes the second film kind of "pointless" in terms of plot.

But then again, I wonder who this is for anyway. I am assuming all Yamato fans already watched the TV show or the theatrical screenings last year.

It's a compilation movie. The assumption is that given the success of 2199 that even a compilation of previous movies will do moderately well in theaters and they can use it to foreshadow stuff in the 2nd one.

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Wider audiance. The previous screenings were in 12 theaters total, and were mainly for the fans. The TV airing would get more people in, but a nationwide screening (90 theaters) of a compilation film might get a lot more people in Japan to watch it, and set up for a massive audiance for the second film in December...which if successful will bring in lots of money for a second series (and likely a second compilation film for the wider audiance).

Essentally, exactly what happened the first time around.

In 1974, Yamato aired its first series. It didn't do all that well, thought it was a hit in circles. The producer later has an international film company of some sort and decided to re-edit the 26 episodes into a film for the international market. In doing so they made a horrble dub called "Space Cruiser Yamato", but they also made a slightly longer version for Japan. This was sent to Japanese theaters in 1977 and was a smash hit. They then made the second film in 1978, now known as "Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato". This film exploded in Japan. It did better than "Star Wars" over there. At the same time they were working on the Second series for Yamato....this was the height of Yamatomania between 1978 and 1980, where they made the Second TV series, a TV movie, and two feature films.

The Yamato 2199 production staff might be thinking they can pull this off again. Create a second Yamatomania via the films to support their TV series projects (as well as Bandai's model kits).

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Wait it was only in 12 theaters? So does that mean most people just saw it on MBS instead?

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

That or purchased the BD, since those came out before the MBS versions in all cases aside from the last four episodes.

I mean it was pretty much the top selling Anime TV series last year in terms of BD and DVD sales aside from Attack on Titan and maybe Fate/Zero.

Re: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

It aired on TV in a prime time slot (for anime)... people would have had the chance to see it already. Although I guess being in a theater again makes it a little more of an event, but still... I suppose this whole endeavour is a bit strange.
