Could Janeway've gotten a Nova Class Science Ship back from Caretaker?

Practically a rowboat?

Kathy wouldn't have been able to win that fight in the pilot with e Kazon, and she wouldn't have had that tricolbolt device to dispose of the Array with, but without a good fight in front of the array, Caretakers self destruct wouldn't have been damaged "accidentally".

The Kazon were smart enough to deactivate Voyager's self destruct once, considering they're scooning around in someone else's fleet, they've preformed that trick numerous times, so it might be their standard practice to disable the self destruct rather than that one time in Basics, it was just Seska helping them not be idiots.

A small ship means less time in open space, which means a different course with maybe twice the layovers, which would have to be charted, and the ship would also be much slower... A Novas Class Vessel wouldn't be 70 years from home, they might be 80, maybe a hundred years form Earth at convventional Warp. Longer? At what point would Janeway have decided to pull a Ransom, fold her principles in half and be a more obvious monster... But if the trip home from the beginning seems utterly impossible, all she would have had to have done is lie to Craetaker and agree to look after the Ocampa after he dies, or any other lies past that, like telling that Kazon Maje Jabin, that he was dead sexy and how would he like a drink and a cuddle before he sent her ship home?

Failing that, if the Kazon held the Array, does that mean that Janeway could negotiate/purchase transport back to the Alpha Quadrant, or that she would have been stuck in orbit of Ocampa for the next 30 years defending those pixy children from the Kazon menace waiting for them to grow up as a species?

I'm hungry.

Since a Nova ship would have been new onscreen, like the Intrepid class, I don't think it would make a difference at all, the story would have been the same.

So Ransom cocked up because he was weak, and not because of the limited technology and resources at his disposal?

Ransom cocked up because the plot demanded it!

Yeah pretty much, but I love the Intrepid design. I know there's debate on the lifting nacelles, I loved if personally. Every time they popped up, I couldn't help but to get excited. It kind of built some anticipation and excitement every time they were about to go to warp.

Lol! Limited resources definitely played a part.

I did think it was odd in Equinox that they didn't encounter many of the same species, and had no run-ins with the Borg. With the sphere of influence some of these species had, you'd think they would at least have heard of some of the same people?

Re: Could Janeway've gotten a Nova Class Science Ship back from Careta

Did Ransom talk to Caretaker?

If he didn't it's because he's a coward or an idiot.

That whole "No time, no time" yapping Caretaker fed Janeway was almost true, since he died minutes later, but Ransom met the old bastard 6 months earlier, and there would have been time to send them home or half way home, or say that he was going to send them home and then cock it up and they wound up half way half...

Been a while since I saw "Caretaker" but wasn't it implied that the Caretaker usually returned the ships home?

As for the OP's question. Yes she coul have because the plot said so.

Re: Could Janeway've gotten a Nova Class Science Ship back from Careta

We don't know what to Gul Evek and his ship, but we do know that Tuvok said that he could get them home, but it would take a few hours to do so, by wich point they all might be slaves or food of the Kazon, and that Neelix said that Voyagers story was a sad one that he had heard many times before...

NEELIX [on viewscreen]: I know enough to stay as far away from it as possible. Wait. Let me guess. You were whisked away from somewhere else in the galaxy, and brought here against your will.
JANEWAY: Sounds as though you've heard this story before.
NEELIX [on viewscreen]: Sadly, yes. Thousands of times. Well, hundreds of times. Maybe fifty times. But the Caretaker has been bringing ships here for months now.
JANEWAY: The Caretaker?
I'm amazed that this is the first ship that Voyager found others dealing with the same bollocks. I guess there was little opportunity to for a support group, no?

What about the space catapuilt using Caretaker tech?

They used it, but couldn't take it with them.

Gul Evek was never in the Delta Quadrant. Remember in 'Caretaker', Janeway said that he had reported the Maquis ship destroyed, meanin' he was still there to file a report with Central Command.

Noting that this would have called for a different start to everything. Sounds like a 'Nova' class ship would not have been assigned to chase Maquis anywhere, least of all in the Badlands.
