Well I've got no shot in this one, but I still need to get an entry in lol... here's what I have so far, taken from the signature scene of Peter David's New Frontier series.

"May the Great Bird of the Galaxy roost on your planet."

Neat. How'd you do this? Did you actually paint any of this or is it clever use of filters?

It's mostly rendered with some PS work to accentuate the explosions and a touch of motion blur... The BG is a real space pic.

Here's the final version, found some better crew pics to use...

...and in more-specific answer to above, I rendered the original big pic, then used some brushing and some filters to make it more comic-y.
