Well, in the end they got their wish - better, really, since now Kirk and Spock are young and interesting again.
Younger and more interesting, Shatner and Nimoy were hardly all that youthful when it started out.
Age does not mean a thing, really. And those 'old guys' were pretty interesting to me.
It's more difficult to watch a mature man in PJ's and a beergut jumping a wooden railing for drama though.

Well, same goes for boy soldiers and impossibly young captains.

Agreed. The Muppet Babies approach would be cool if we were to see these people in their early careers. But Captain Punk (Hey, you're a cadet suspended for cheating who's not even supposed to be on this ship. I'll make you XO!) is a but much.

In terms of real spacecraft design--the closest thing I had ever seen to the Enterprise is in Figure 12 on page 6 of thisPDF
http://www.aiaa.org/pdf/industry/Shu...sFinalAIAA.pdf
There lenticular designs were covered--other found here: http://www.astronautix.com/fam/lenicles.htm

^And this pertains to the topic how? Also, there is a thread on that in the sci and tech forum.

And there you have two entirely different philosophies of posting.

As for JJ-prise with better morphological balance it would look fine.

Picard was an old guy, and people seem to have liked him, me included.

It could be worse, he could be a humourless, lifeless moron posting on a sci-fi fantasy internet forum using childish playground language to make fun of non-existant people to appear 'big' in the eyes of others.

I know, I know, but a well written critique of the characters I can deal with even if the person definitely does not like the new movie.

Resorting to name calling and childish behaviour of calling them "emo" or "Captain Punk" while trying to imply the characters are unprofessional and unkoof is just ridiculously hilarious.
