Plot speculations: Star Trek XII

With the rumor of Weller being a C.E.O and the more than likely inclusion of Khan it is possible that part of the movie will be set in the past (1990s Eugenic Wars) or it is possible that Khan could be reinvented as originating in the 23rd century. Or another possibility...time travel!?

everything is possible, atm
give me a month to think about it
but I find the 1990ies scenario highly unlikely

All I ask is no time travel and no doomsday weapons.

Time travel is my favorite science fiction topic but even I would like to see Star Trek give that a rest for a while.

Re: Plot speculations: Star Trek XII

I'm putting my money on Peter Weller as Gary Seven and Alice Eve as Roberta Lincoln. Why? Because those two characters are the main protagonists in Greg Cox's two-part novel series "The Eugenics Wars: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh." Roberto Orci is a well-known fan of Trek literature and I think may have even mentioned those novels as being among his favorites. If true, Seven and Lincoln might figure into an extended prologue explaining Khan's origins, or perhaps in flashbacks throughout the film, which would fit with Abrams' penchant for non-linear storytelling. It's also possible one or both of them somehow turn up in the 23rd century time frame, perhaps to help deal with Khan after he is rediscovered by the Enterprise.

I also don't rule out the possibility that all the Khan rumors are nothing but a red herring, especially given Bob Orci's recent Khan-related hints, which somehow strike me as clever gambit to keep leading us merrily down the wrong path as long as we're already so eager to follow it.

Khan or no Khan, though, I still think Weller and Eve are playing Seven and Lincoln. Pull up a picture of Weller alongside Robert Lansing (who originally played Gary Seven) and tell me they don't bear some striking similarities. I would say their personal mannerisms and acting performances are also quite similar.

Yeah, and the last Trek movie had a working title of "Corporate Headquarters."

I don't regard the role description of "C.E.O." for Weller's character as anything definitive.

On the one hand I wonder if they would truly pick some one as obscure as Gary Seven...however you are correct that the writers do like to take ideas from the novels for their script.

From a canon perspective, it's a known name that you can pretty much do anything with because we know so little about the character.

Re: Plot speculations: Star Trek XII

As well as Weller/Seven and Alice/Roberta, I'll guess that the Botany Bay was found by the Klingons shortly after George Kirk's death, and now (2260's) Khan is ruling the Empire from the shadows.

Maybe the Enterprise will find Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln in another sleeper ship, one sent after the Botany Bay? (and in the Prime universe, they're STILL floating out there ) That way, there isn't any time travel.

Sounds kinda like what they did with the Duras sisters and Sela in the Redemption two-parter.

If they go Eugenic Wars novels route, shouldn't Greg Cox know?

Very good point. They pretty much could do what they want with them and for Trek fans it would be a nice Easter egg and for the general audience they would be completely knew characters.

Let's just hope they're smarter with their Easter Eggs this time around. Delta Vega anyone?
