Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Release

I'm a little surprised that we haven't had a thread for this yet (and I looked for one) The film comes out on Dec 16. Jared Harris plays Moriarty and Noomi Raplace plays a Gypsy character named Sim. Here's the wikipedia article for the film.

Here is the first trailer that debuted today.

I think it looks bad ass and seems more action oriented than the first one.

The first film's trailers were also action-heavy. Though this definitely looks to feature more locales.

Jared Harris is a great choice to play Moriarty.

Holmes' conspiracy board mentions the suicide of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-Hungary, which would date the film to 1889.

The only problem I can see with the movie is that Sherlock Holmes the character will not make it through Downey the persona, and that the emphasis on action fails to distinguish it from any other buddy action movie.

Didn't see the first one, don't know if I'll try the second, since Downey is the kind of actor you either love or hate, since he can't seem to truly immerse himself in a role. Sort of like the recent version of Nicholas Cage.

And isn't Sherlock Holmes supposed to be more of a sleuth than action hero? Meh.

The first movie was a lot of fun, and Holmes still did his fair share of sleuthing. A Game of Shadows looks like it's going to be fun, too.

It also looks like Downey was rocking the Tony Stark look in that intro!

@Borgminister you really should see the first movie. They did an excellent job of keeping Robert in check. There was a nice balance of action and all of his other traditional qualities that you would expect from a Holmes film.

The Sherlock movies produced by the BBC are even better in my opinion.

Looks alright I guess. Might see it at the cinema but more than likely wait till it's on Blue Ray and then download it.

Seems even less like the literary Holmes than the first one, and I'm not sure what we're getting instead is a change I care to see. That said, Downey and Law are great in their roles, and Lane from Mad Men as Moriarty? I might see it, if the reviews are at least on par with the first installment.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

I'm goin'. I missed the first in theaters, thanks to my (now ex) girlfriend insisted we see it together & then not feelin' like it on the few nights we were both off from work & able to go.

So, I had to settle for the blu ray on my (now gone) sixty inch flatscreen after we broke up.

Yeah, I'll be at Sherlock Holmes 2 on openin' day!

I guess the action quotient had to be upped given the Hollywood blockbuster aspirations; quieter, BBC type movies usually don't make big money.

I'll put the first one in my rental cue and wait for Rottentomatoes... then perhaps give it a shot. If it were Jim Carrey as lead, I'd already have tickets...

I loved the first one! Saw it twice in the theater and have watched my DVD a number of times.

This first trailer follows the standard 1st trailer for a film of it's type. Heavy on the action moments, especially the leads with only glimpses of the foe.

The second trailer will be the "story" trailer. The one that lays out a more concise narrative of the film.

Are they going to make that schtick of "In your hand/In my face" part of their banter trademark? Looks like it. Kinda of like the Leathal Weapon "We're too old for this shit" or Die Hard and "YippieKaiYeahMother$$$$".

This is the December movie I'm eagerly awaiting!! Was kinda surprised as well we didn't have a thread following this already.

@House of UIster then perhaps you shouldn't have bothered to post in a thread about a sequel to the 2009 film then if you feel that way. I too am a fan of "Sherlock" but I also really enjoyed Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes" and the sequel looks really good as well in my opinion.
