Mikkelsen is an interesting choice, though I'd rather that they'd gone for someone who didn't so obviously scream 'VILLAIN!' as he does. I prefer the Brian Cox take on the character to the Anthony Hopkins one.

In coincidence corner, Mikkelson will be appearing opposite Hopkins in Thor 2, assuming that this tv show doesn't take him out of the movie.

Laurence Fishburne circling Hannibal

Although a Peacock rep declined to comment, TVLine has learned exclusively that Fishburne is circling the pivotal role of Jack Crawford, the agent-in-charge at the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI who is tasked with tracking down a certain flesh-eating serial killer. Crawford was played by Dennis Farina in 1986 Manhunter, Scott Glenn in 1991′s Silence of the Lambs, and Harvey Keitel in 2002′s Red Dragon.

There's an interesting little bit of near-symmetry here. Fishburne was last on tv when he replaced William Petersen in CSI and Petersen had previously played Will Graham in Manhunter, the first Lecter movie, based on Red Dragon.

Bryan Fuller Taps Wonderfalls' Caroline Dhavernas as Female Lead

We hear that the actress will play a series regular named Dr. Alana “Al” Bloom, a psychiatric protege of Hannibal Lecter’s who teaches psychology at Georgetown University and is consulting with the FBI on criminal profiling when she introduces her mentor to Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford.

Bryan Fuller, the man behind both NBC’s gruesome mid-season drama and the 2004 Fox cult hit Wonderfalls, announced Thursday via Twitter that Chelan Simmons would bring her chirpy ‘falls character — Gretchen Speck-Horowitz — to his new project.

“THRILLED to be working again with @ChelanLSimmons and TICKLED her character is crossing over to #Hannibal,” the writer and executive producer tweeted, along with a photo of Simmons.

^So if this is true, presumably this series won't be set within the movie continuity? Or would this character have been kicking around in the 1970s or 80s?!

I think that the show is set in the present day.

I think not as the plan seems to be to deal with the events of 'Red Dragon' around season 3 or 4.

Pushing Daisies' Ellen Greene Joins Cast of NBC's Hannibal

Greene will take on the recurring role of Mrs. Komeda, a novelist and member of Boston’s cultural elite. She’s also a pal of the titular cannibal, Dr. Lecter (played by Casino Royale‘s Mads Mikkelsen) which – we assume – should protect her from becoming his lunch.
