I've found my old Star Trek: Elite Force II editing stuff, installed it and the game on my new PC and am building my concept in 3D. I'll post pics if the results are presentable.

That would be cool to see. I finished a very rough sketch of a floorplan, which looks horrid but will give some idea to what I think it would be like.
I need to trace the lines with a fineliner or something to make it more clear for scanning, then scan it in and post it. Hopefully later today.

Re: Vesta class bridge??

Right, here's a VERY early version of my concept. Keep in mind I haven't read Zero Sum Game yet, so if anything said there conflicts with mine, that's why.

I haven't replaced the default Enterprise-E textures with the Prometheus/STXI/STIV Enterprise off-whites yet. The ceiling isn't done. Nor the LCARS displays. I think it looks a bit too much like the Defiant bridge at the moment.

And here's a plan:

I'm wondering if it should be even "thinner". I'm gonna get rid of those two free-standing rear consoles. What I think would be a great addition would be a few sheets of holographic glass (as seen in STXI, as well as "Parallels" and in the engine room of the STVI Enterprise.... at least, I'm pretending it's all holographic and cool even if we never saw it "in use" until STXI due to budgetary contraints!)

Nice! I really have to do my own version in 3D sometime. Time, it's a funny word!

Keep it up!

Re: Vesta class bridge??

I don't think making the bridge narrower would be a good idea. There are logistical considerations like crew movement to keep in mind. It looks like it'd already be a tight squeeze in a couple of places, though removing those freestanding aft consoles will help. There's also the question of whether it's a good idea to elongate a bridge too much. The genius of the original circular bridge design is that every station is equally close to the captain and the distance between stations is minimized, so it maximizes everyone's ability to see and hear everyone else. (Which makes me wonder about the acoustical considerations of bridge design, whether certain shapes would be worse than others at allowing people to hear each other clearly, or whether they'd create undesirable echoes. But one would probably need to consult a specialist about that.)

Re: Vesta class bridge??

Here's version 2. I've given it the wheelchair-unfriendly floor of all Trek bridges, which makes the walkways much clearer. I still haven't done the new textures, but I've done a quick ceiling. The damn compile tools refuse to work on Windows 7, so I can only post these pics from the editor (complete with floating light entities and glitchy garbled characters) and not the in-game version with proper lighting that should look much better. I only gave one console a very quick and rough LCARS display. Sets of smaller displays, along the lines of the rear of the 1701-D bridge, would probably be much better.

I've replaced the freestanding consoles at the rear with some multipurpose holographic glass (seen in the TNG era on an alternate Enterprise in "Parallels")

Christopher's probably right - the people at the very back might have a little trouble hearing the people at the very front.

Re: Vesta class bridge??

Very nice indeed. I like!

My suggestions:

- How about dropping the conn station down to the lowest floor level? One of my biggest complaints of the Defiant-style design is that Sisko had no real eyeline to the viewscreen, even though he was constantly seen as though he had one. At least once he even went to Dax's side at the console so he couldhave a good look in the middle of battle (re: Sacrifice of Angels). In practice the CO should not NEED a window in the traditional sense, but Treknology tends to dictate that the hero officer needs a good look outside.

- The vertical displays aft are a nice idea, having been seen in TNG "Parallels" and more recently in the 2009 movie. I would suggest not having them directly opposite one another though, as it would make it difficult for people on the outside looking in to get a good look as the opposite screen would be confusing them. Perhaps instead you could try a master situation table, a la NX-01 or Defiant?

Not bad, but is there a reason for it to be long and narrow besides "the ship's shaped that way and it looks cool"? I mean, is there any functional benefit that offsets the acoustic difficulties and the rather dinky main viewscreen? I think it would be a very good design if it were a little rounder.

And have we gotten any confirmation that the Vesta-class bridge doesn't have any seats beside the captain's? It looks odd to see a 24th-century bridge with only one seat there. The captain would be lonely.

Good points, especially about the 2 screens.

I freely admit that I chose the shape because it's cool, resembles the ship itself and it's unlike any prior Starfleet bridge.

I've given thought to moving the forward perimeter consoles further back and putting in a wraparound viewscreen.

My concern with making the bridge rounder is that it would end up looking like a generic Trek bridge set redress.

Is that bad? Form should follow function. The original TOS bridge was such a supremely efficient and logical design that the real US military copied it for a communications center. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
