I wouldn't date a woman who smoked, but for the purposes of these threads it seems like it would be way too much work to try to factor it into a thumbs up/down situation.

Your fallacy is that liberal=intelligent by default.
Did not mean to imply the two were inherently connected, just that people in show business tend to be liberal (at least in the US they do) and intelligent (though this can vary wildly) at least in these manners.

Just that, I always find it odd that anyone in this day and age takes up smoking. Mrs. Gillan up there was born in 1987 which means she's been exposed to anti-smoking propaganda her entire life and grown up in a time where its health effects are wildly known and spoken about and also in a time when smoking is a little less common-place and accepted.

Just find it odd that someone so young and beautiful -and so many that are young and beautiful- still smoke.

Maybe she's knows full well how bad smoking is for her and yet still chooses to do so anyway because she enjoys it. That is her right, after all.

What do you base the bolded part on?

Normally, I would give thumbs WAY WAY WAY up.. I love redheads and she's beautiful.. However, over the weekend, I saw a couple of pictures of her smoking and that's just a complete turn off for me... So, sorry to say, thumbs down and a huge disappointment..

Yes.. Childish of me perhaps, but I hate to see a beautiful young woman destroy herself like that.
And she does other dangerous stuff, like drive cars and eat red meat.
It doesn't bother me when someone else endangers their own health. What bothers me is that smoking is absolutely disgusting. It makes the smoker smell absolutely rancid, and when I'm around someone smoking, it screws with my health, since suddenly I have to inhale their now-full-of-carcinogens air. I often end up having horrible allergy attacks to boot -- I can't stop sneezing, my sinuses get stuffed, my nose runs more than a faucet, and my eyes get puffy.

Smoking: It fucks with other people's health, too.

Yeah, not unlike cars. Cars smell bad, look bad, harm the environment and kill people. Lots and lots of people. I'm sure you wouldn't date a girl who drives a car.

Depends. Would it literally make me nauseated if I tried to kiss her because her breath would smell awful? Would her car cause me to have a horrible allergy attack every time I'm in a room with her?

OMG... did you know that volcanoes spew toxic junk into the atmosphere as well? Huh? I suppose you wouldn't date a girl who lives on a continent with a Volcano... would you? Huh? WOULD YOU!?!?

Please note that I'm saying this with a lot of respect and brotherly affection, but you're a bit of a wimp, aren't you?

It's one of those times you wish you were "all thumbs".

I don't like seeing girls smoke either. I would say I wouldn't date a girl who did, but hey, I can't afford to be that picky
