And our great affiliates at Ex Astris Scientia have a brand new comparisons article from "The Naked Now":

We'll be jointly covering all episodes from the first season over the next few months, so stay tuned! Also watch out for a new comparisons video coming soon to TrekCore!

How are the "stretching Enterprise's" handled in WNOHGB?
Stunning.

Even with the audio issues, it's an incredible set and I'm very happy with the purchase.
I'm really torn after reading this thread.

I have had to hold out buying it anyway because the blue fish player my wife bought me for my birthday wasn't compatible with our television and we were waiting until the olympics finish so we can pick up a top of the range one at reduced cost!

Now with all these talks of issues, I'm wondering if I'll be best waiting for a "fix" to be released. I really want to support this and the screen shots I've seen are gorgeous. I've been really looking forward to WNOHGB as it was the first video I bought back in my childhood. But it will have already cost us nearly £1000 before we even buy the discs!!

Blu-ray 2.0 audio vs DVD 2.0 audio

would the average viewer without a large 7.1 capable home cinema speaker set up be quite happy with the improved HD image and DVD soundtrack?
just saw this:
The 2-channel mix, despite being lossy, is considerably better than the stereo mix on the DVDs. I tried the 7.1 mix, and while the intro sounded amazing, I couldn't get past the dialog being shifted to the wrong channel and switched back to 2-channel.
although EOF Dolby Digital 2.0 track on EaF:
Anyone try 2-channel on Encounter at Farpoint? The intro sequence is out of sync by a few seconds. Very noticeable. Confirmed on both an Oppo BDP-93 and PS3. The audio is in sync during the rest of the episode though.

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R general discussion thread!

With all the talk about this release setting a new standard, it's pretty humiliating if that new standard includes screwed up audio. They will fix this, and will make it right for those who paid for this release. If it's a slow process of mailing discs and awaiting a replacement, stagger them so you're down only one disc at a time.

I have really been put off buying this. Shame as I wanted to support it for a DS9 release too.

What I cannot understand is how the reviews here are so different to the ones on other sites.
If that is the case then that is your loss. This release is truly amazing - be it from a technical point of view or a Trekky's. The audio glitches so far only really affect two episodes and they have perfectly adequate stereo soundtracks that can be used instead. Unless you are an audio tech buff you probably won't even notice a difference. If you really are a fan of The Next Generation, then I can't see how you would be able to do anything else but thoroughly enjoy this release!

See my subsequent post and you will see that I am really a fan. Afterall, who else but a Trekkie would spend nearly £1000 simply to be able to watch these.

My point was. Should I wait?!

To that I can only give you my personal view. For me, the audio thing is not much more really than a slight annoyance. It's not enough to postpone my enjoyment of the remastering or with joining in with the discussion and appreciation of this land mark release. After all it's 23 episodes that work pretty much perfectly (with some slight audio channel bleeding, but hey thats not so uncommon). And then there are 2 episodes that need to be watched in stereo. Not really a big deal. Think of it this way. It's TNG in glorious HD!!! A year ago, who would have thought this possible?

Re: The OFFICIAL STNG-R general discussion thread!

I just started diving into the set. Encounter at Farpoint has never looked or sounded so damn good. I don't think i'll ever watch this in standard format again. All these sound issues, well i'm not a sound tech guy, to me the show is sounding outstanding. So great to see my favorite show of all time upgraded so incredibly well. I showed some co-workers, to just give them a better sense of how great blueray format is, they were sold.

I'm glad you wrote that because some of the other things written in this thread made me very concerned despite enjoying it and not noticing audio problems last night. Of course I've only seen the special features and two episodes (E@F and Naked Now) so maybe I will notice it later on, but I'm still enjoying it. Also, if CBS does find a cause for this, does have a fix for it, and does it in a timely matter, I can see a recall of the whole thing where you can just take it to where you got it and get a replacement copy.

Suffice it to say, my suggestion is SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS. You never know when they will be valuable and I have a feeling these receipts will be valuable sooner rather than later.

Agreed 100%.

Don't get me wrong, this is a forum and we are all obsessed fans so they're nothing wrong with discussing the sound issue to death, but to say it's going to prevent you from purchasing the set!? Keep in mind there is no guarentee there will be replacement disks. Even if there are, as Jeffries said, its really pretty minor in the grand scheme of things and shouldn't take that much away from the amazing overall result of this release. I hope those who are on the fence because of the audio issues have actually seen these remastered episodes in person (via the sampler disc or the season 1 set). Until you do, all the talking on this board will not convey to you the magnitude of the overall improvement of this 25 year old series, audio issues or not.

This is what we've been waiting for for years. To let audio issues preclude you from buying it is, frankly, silly.

Well, they may be minor issues but from reading others comments in this and other threads, you would think they were unwatchable. So thanks for your inputs. I think the extra's alone had sold me anyway.

yeah i'd complain if the sound was missing. but just watching it on my HD tv, no surround sound, the sound is amazing and clear. Better than ever.
