This isn't as something as simple as changing Kirk's middle initial. This is a fundamental change to a beloved character. Who is Tim Drake? Time Drake is the third Robin. That's how he was introduced. That's how we was for most of his existence. To suddenly strip that away, and say that he was never the character the he was is insulting to all of the fans.

It's almost like DC's tossing darts on a dart board and seeing what works and what doesn't!!! If they gotta change an initial to explain some story nuance I'm sure they would
Did you know that's actually how Wizards creates new Magic decks?

They've been doing that since 1938, too. It's not really that big of a deal, all they've done is ad "Red" to his code name. He's still a Robin.

You've a low threshold foe "insult". I've followed Tim Drake since Batman #436. He's probably the best take on "Robin" I've read, but I cant make myself feel "insulted" over a few changes.

Re: DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

That's the point though of the retcon. He is no longer a Robin. Just as they demoted Stephanie Brown from "Robin" status back to Spoiler, and then eventually phased her out entirely, it would appear they are doing the same thing to Tim Drake. These are changes that aren't necessary in a lot of fans eyes. They add nothing to the character. They might not detract anything, but they sure as hell don't add anything either. Are they going to retcon his famous line now about Batman needing a Robin? "Batman will always need a Robin...a Red Robin!" It's just silly.

It may not bother you Nerys, but surely you could see how it could others? Even if we look at it from a sales stand point, I don't see how making Tim Red Robin increases or decreases sales at all.

I see it as a way to make Tim stand out in a sea of Robins.

Interesting point of view. I didn't think of that way. At least it's better than being erased I suppose

Neither Stephanie Brown nor Cassandra Cain were listed as allies of Batman in BATMAN #0. Although that, obviously, isn't a definitive answer to the question.

Guys, they rebooted the entire universe. It's hardly the most major change that happened, even if the bat-books were largely unaffected. Deal with it.

They didn't reboot the entire universe. They rebooted most of it. Batman, Green Lantern, and the Legion of Superheroes were all carried over from the DCU into the 52'Verse. As for "dealing with it", we are. That doesn't mean we have to like it

As I said, "even if the bat-books were largely unaffected." That doesn't mean they were immune to change. Consider that Batman and Green Lantern interacted numerous times with characters who no longer exist.

I'm guessing Lobdell is going to/has retcon Judd Winick's The Lost Days from last year, which may not entirely be a bad thing.

Or, rebooted to be ALMOST the same as they were. But, yeah, its a reboot--even if somethings didn't change that much.

If you look at it as a clean slate, its pretty consistent.
