I think people go for events 'cause they wanna see if the status quo will change in a way that would make the regular monthly stuff more interesting. That article makes a good point, let the aftermaths play out, instead of switching everything up again so soon. As for me, if ever I wanna jump on a particular series and am afraid that an event made the universe unrecognizable, there's always wikipedia.

That's my biggest gripe...is that the so called status quo changes are always almost immediately altered or changed shortly thereafter rending the event irrelevant and pissing fans off. So I can understand fans being upset and tired with events. I like them though when they're written well and are entertaining.

Considering where DC was relative to Marvel in sales prior to the reboot, it's going to be quite a while before they've got anything to feel badly about.

Re: DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

Feel badly about what? Taking over sales? I don't think anyone was feeling sorry for Marvel. I think that the point of the link I posted is that despite the early success of the relaunch, Marvel is starting to catch up and close the gap.

This might have been inevitable but it would seem that DC is interested in developing video games for the new 52. As posted maybe earlier in this thread or in the previous thread the first wave of toys are coming out sometime next year so it makes sense for video games to follow at some point.

So I've tried about 3/5ths of the 52 so far, and have since dropped only OMAC, JL Dark and Superman. That's a pretty good track record.

Re: DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

An update on what I'm still following:

Action Comics
Aquaman
Batman
Batman and Robin
Batman, Inc (Leviathan Strikes in two weeks folks!)
Batwoman
Justice League
Superboy
Supergirl
Superman (barely)
Stormwatch
Wonder Woman

The new Batman Beyond is supposed to debut next year at some time I think...unless they've gone and cancelled it. My top three favourite books so far are Action Comcis, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

DC's 52 brought in a bunch of new readers so it's not exactly a myth.
Did they? Or did they just get old/current readers interested who drifted away from DC? My money is on the latter.

Yeah it'd be actually interesting if there were some kind of stat to prove new readers were actually brought into the fold. A jump in sales really doesn't prove that to me...it only means people were buying them.

Are Penguin: Pain and Prejudice, Huntress, and Legion: Secret Origins in the New 52 or New Earth universe?

As opposed to pirating? Why would someone who has no problem with stealing decide to start paying for stuff all of a sudden?

Re: DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

Who's talking about pirating? I was referring to the notion that the New 52 was apparently created in the first place with the primary objective of drawing the attention of new readers. The sales figures really do not prove that "new readers" were or are buying the New 52. They just prove that people in general were buying them.

@JD all three of those books are in the New 52 Verse. Legion Origins is the origin of the Legion.

I'm sick of every year needing a huge crossover event. If anything, DC's proving you can sell comics without that crap.
Um. So, rebooting their ENTIRE LINE doesn't count as an event? While it's not a crossover or a summer event... it's still a MAJOR event... probably the BIGGEST thing they have done since 1986.

I would say this goes to show: events sell books.

Yep. If a fan doesn't want an event or events to continue happening the biggest way to make your voice clear to the companies is to not buy the books when they come out. I say this because whenever this is brought up to a writer or an editor they always say sales proves otherwise.
