Seeking some Help

I am beginning work on a project, the exact details of which will be revealed at a later date. What I am looking for are high-resolution images from conventions, Star Trek exhibits at museums, stage shows, fan productions, fanzines, unique memorabilia, fan art, etc. This can go from Star Trek: TOS through the new film and everything in between. For those whose work is to be used, there will be a photo release form which will cover rights, permission, and credit. If you have specific queries, please e-mail offline. Many thanks for your consideration and help.

Bob

Mr. Greenberger--do these need to come from specific sources, or can they come from, say, flickr.com, or what-have-you?

I think he means from fans' own personal collections.

Which is tricky. Pics of me at conventions and fan events were taken by other people over the last 30 years, many of whom I've lost contact with, or would possibly refuse to sign-off on for use in a publication. Pics of fans and fannish events taken by me are of people I've met over the last 30 years, many of whom I've now lost contact with, or don't recall complete details, and again would possibly refuse to sign-off on.

I'd say that's a little gray area. I mean, I'm assuming these weren't taken by professional photographers that ever had any reasonable expectation to believe they'd be making money off of the photos. Besides, if you are the subject or one of the subjects of the photo and are owner of said photo. For example, I have a few photos of me with various Trek stars taken at conventions so obviously I didn't take them but they were taken using my film and camera so I wouldn't think twice of saying I'm the owner of the photo. Of course, I'd never be trying to make money off of the photos either.

I'm not sure that always follows that the subject is the owner of the image. The original photographer, holder of the original negative (pre-digital), may well dispute that, esp. if they were an amateur at the time and now attempting to make a living as a professional photographer. Of course, I didn't sign any model release forms either.

And photo opportunities with celebs at conventions, these days, often state in the fine print that the images are not to be published.
