True Blood 4x09 - "Run" (spoliers)

Ohhh now that was fun. Lala's spirit, the doll, Debbie, the Weres, little shit, and the witches all coming together.

And - to no one's surprise, I'm sure - J and J did the nasty in the back of his truck. Poor Hoyt.

Good stuff, aside from the Sookie/Bill/Eric dream scenes. I'm glad they seemed to have wrapped up the Mikey storyline.

I don't really feel bad for Hoyt anymore. Not after the way he's behaved the last couple of episodes. I was kind of hoping that, for once, Jason would overcome his urges, but oh well. I'm glad he at least seems to have become a fairly competent police officer.

I thought the dream sequence was quite funny.

I liked how Sookie got that "glamorous" light across the eyes you'd see in old movies and shows.

Re: True Blood 4x09 - "Run" (spoliers)

Hoyt has become the Riley of the series- a boring, deadweight character like the Riley character from the Buffy Vampire Slayer series. I only see three options for him: death, leaving Bon Temp and never coming back, or becoming another vampire hater.

I'm not sure about Jason and Jessica hooking up. Jason has a way to falling for his ideas of women he falls in love with only to find out that they don't measure to the images he created of them afterwards which lands him in trouble and wishing he never met them in the first place. Maybe Jessica will break the pattern. Maybe she won't. It depends on
the chances of Jason and Jessica making it as a couple. If it's going to be a repeat of Hoyt/Jessica with them constantly fighting over the human/vampire issue once they are together, then I don't see a point in them being together.

I thought the Sookie/Bill/Eric threesome was stupid and a way for Sookie to once again be indecisive or an easy out from her bouncing from her feelings for one guy to her feelings for another guy.

I'm glad Tommy did something good and selfless for once this season.

Re: True Blood 4x09 - "Run" (spoliers)

I enjoyed last night's ep. I thought they were going to kill Tommy off at first. I thought the foreshadowing with him writing a good bye letter to Sam and then taking his place for his meeting with the werewolf; I thought it would be a good way to write him off the show, sacrificing himself for his brother, atoning for the crap he had done. Oh well, at least his beat down provides some impetus to Sam to kick that scuzzy werewolf's ass.

Antonia is shaping up to be a pretty good villain this season, so far better than Mary Ann or even Russell. I like how the actress changes how she speaks and acts from the mild Marney to the more assertive Antonia. I'm also glad that Nan is playing a bigger part this season. She has a kind of icy beauty that's perfect for a vampire.

I knew the Jason-Jessica thing was going to happen sooner or later, so I wasn't surprised by that. I wonder how long it will last and what's going to happen with Hoyt now. As someone suggested he could become a vampire hater. I think they need to focus more on vampire haters, perhaps from that Church that was featured in Season 2, anyway.

I was surprised that the Lafayette storyline wrapped up so quickly. Ultimately it felt a bit pointless, except to show that Lafayette is a medium and it gave us the opportunity for Jesus to come into his power. Those are important things, but I wish they had been done in the context of the Antonia storyline. I was hoping that Lafayette would be more than a medium, someone who is a tool, a vessel for spirits. It makes him seem powerless, at the whim of supernaturnal forces. I was hoping he would be able to wield some power himself. I did like the hostage standoff. It had a nice mix of humor and tension.

Didn't care for Lafayette using the 'b' word as the spirit transcended. There was a smile on his face and he was certainly happy for her, but I felt the term was inappropriate. It bothers me that he often refers to Tara as a 'b' or a hooker, and he doesn't do that with many of the white female characters on the show. I can take it that he and Tara are family and it could be a term of endearment (a sucky way to show it), between them (obviously they love each other), but it still bothers me. Was the word typical Lafayette from what we've seen of his character? Yes, but for once, go outside character.

The big threesome scene was just okay. It was a dream so it wasn't that big of a deal. I have to admit that Sookie did have some points, but I couldn't imagine Bill or Eric ever agreeing to such an arrangement in "real" life.

Just realized that the actress playing Marnie/Antonia is Harry Potter's aunt. Another good episode, started off kind of slow, but this season is shaping up to be excellente!

I'm about ready to give up. I just don't like any of these characters anymore. Sookie really took the cake in her conversation with Debbie, though: "You tried to kill me. That ain't something you can expect someone to forget."

Hypocrisy overload.

I enjoyed this episode, particularly Antonia's cunning little vampire coup at the rally.

This episode was really another example of Sookie's lack of growth as a character. There has a small handful of moments in the past that fool me into thinking she has grown or changed as a character but when those moments pass, we realize Sookie is just the same old Sookie being used as the grand prize for all the sexy, handsome men of the series fighting over her while being a Mary Sue character who keeps holding onto a waistress job she barely attends. Though Tommy fired her as Sam, I think it's a matter of time before Sookie gets her job back.

I loved the dream. I loved the light on her eyes, she did look glamorous! It was cool!

I like Nan! I hope we get more and more of her in the episodes to come!

Antonia is scary! And damn, Tara, stop getting yourself into these messes!!!

I'm happy for Jason and Jess. Weird that they went from inside the house to the back of his truck. But I suppose that's one place we haven't seen Jason do it yet...

And damn, the cliffhanger came too soon! I'm usually prepared for them, but this one snuck up on me! So excited for next week!

Re: True Blood 4x09 - "Run" (spoliers)

I haven't read the books save for the first one which i liked very much and have spoiled myself on future happenings in general times but i gotta ask this..

Did Sookie become a moron in the books too?

Honestly.. that girl gets stupider by the seasons and in the current one she takes the cake. Falling in love with a known murderer, at times sadist and at times honorable gentleman who's ready to wreck havoc at any perceived insult or challenge (she should talk to Lafayette about how he eviscerated a guy in his dungeon who silvered him after he had imprisoned him and would most likely torture him). Jesus.. now we get a Buffy knockoff scene and i just am losing my sympathy for her.

I really liked the resolution of the dead woman/Lafayette storyline.. something heartwarming amidst all the chaos and with a nice Lafayette twist at the end

Main storyline.. shit has hit the fan.. in even bigger quantities than before. While the fight at the cemetary was confined to Witch vs Vampires now it's become national news.. again. Right at the time when the world is coming to terms with Russel Eddington killing a man on live TV the world will see Vampires starting a public bloodbath.

Even if the Vampires kill Antonia now the damage is done.. again.

Alcide in this episode was interesting for a change.. i liked the whole Alpha pack psychology in this one and all the posturing and jockeying for powerful positions and i especially liked Alcide kicking some ass and going against the pack.

Props to Tommy for trying to atone for his mistakes.. will be interesting to see if Sam learns of it and how he reacts.

Currently though i think the series is losing ground with this season. The total and unbelievable emasculation of Eric (even though it's written in the book) is very hard to take and Sookie is losing sympathy points fast for her sheer stupidity and just dumb behaviour. I hope the last quarter of this season pulls it out of this mess.. it took them half a season to get going and i hope the setup was worth it.

You know I hadn't thought about it, but I think you have a point about Sookie. I can't say she's grown as a character at all. Tara, Jason, Sam, Bill, Jessica, Hoyt, Eric, and Lafayette have all shown some growth or change-perhaps haphazard or forced in terms of Eric. But Sookie has pretty much remained the same. Even the revelation of her Fay heritage didn't seem that big a deal for her. Perhaps not related, but it does strain credulity that almost every guy on the show has a thing for her. I mean, when you've got Luna on the show now, there's no way she wouldn't be getting my attention instead.
