The best episode of ENT - Part One

Okay Trek fans, this game has been successful on the boards for the other shows, and I hope it prospers here as well. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favorite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you play again. Not a very accurate way of determining the best episode, but a fun game nonetheless. Pretty simple. Enjoy!

Broken Bow
Fight or Flight
Strange New World
Unexpected
Terra Nova
The Andorian Incident
Breaking the Ice
Civilization
Fortunate Son
Cold Front
Silent Enemy
Dear Doctor
Sleeping Dogs
Shadows of P'Jem
Shuttlepod One
Fusion
Rogue Planet
Acquisition
Oasis
Detained
Vox Sola
Fallen Hero
Desert Crossing
Two Days and Two Nights
Shockwave (I)

Terra Nova: Boring and predictable. The characters were annoying rather than sympathetic, so I didn't care what happened to them.

Two Days and Two Nights: Pointless filler episode involving the crew taking a holiday on Risa. Dull, only watchable for Reed & Tucker behaving like Abbott & Costello and that Tardaran spy plot with Archer which needed to go somewhere... I dare you not to nod off during the Hoshi romance parts. Michael Dorn ought've been given a Klingon story to direct.

Rogue Planet -- stupid science, even for Star Trek, and it comes with a boring episode, too.

Oasis: Not only dull and unmemorable, but also repetitive. IIRC, DS9 did an episode almost exactly like this one. Also a waste of Rene Auberjonois.

I got rid of the stupid Ferengi episode Aquisition as by this point in the franchise, we'd suffered through enough stupid Ferengi episodes. Having them appear before they did on TNG, just for a fluff episode just adds to the silliness really.

I actually thought "Acquisition" was amusing, and it didn't break canon (heaven forbid), so I don't see the big deal.

Re: The best episode of ENT - Part One

Don't misunderstand me, canon violations don't bother me to the point of no sleep! All of the Star Trek series have made such 'errors' over the years, so it's impossible to get worked up about a fictional universe.

I enjoy internal consistency in a series, it helps to make things seem more real. which then lets me escape into that world. If a writer came up with a really cool idea that just had to be done, however, even if it contradicts what came before, then they should just go for it. I just feel that Acquisition is not a good example of this. Season two's Regeneration is much stronger, however.

Well, YMMV and all that.

I watched "Acqusition" the other day and my attitude has softened toward it. It's okay. I'm over it. The Ferengi obviously had to get the Vulcan Love Slave story idea from somewhere. The only part that I thought could've been done differently, was the play acting moment where Trip suddenly pretends Hoshi was his wife. Jeffrey Combs has never done an awful Trek character. Cool that they roped in Clint Howard and Ethan Phillips who criss-cross the franchise too.

But yeah, stronger episodes...

It's no use asking me! I actually don't mind Terra Nova and that's no shale.

Fortunate Son: Nausicaans? Really? Why didn't TIIC just set this "prequel" series in the period between TOS and TNG and be done with it?

My only issue with Nausicaans was how they were more articulate than in "Tapestry". You would think they would be less evolved and a race you couldn't exactly negotiate with. Although I did like that moment Archer promises that they'd be seeing more NX class ships... The bitterness of the cargo hauler's son, not wanting faster warp and talk of Starfleet potentially taking people away from their service, adds a bit of background to the prequel era. ECA sets work well with their earlier than the NX look.

Broken Bow
Fight or Flight
Strange New World
Unexpected
The Andorian Incident
Breaking the Ice
Civilization
Cold Front
Silent Enemy
Dear Doctor
Sleeping Dogs
Shadows of P'Jem
Shuttlepod One

Vox Sola: Creature feature. Captured crewmen who can hang around for hours, discussing the situation and not be strangled. Some brief goodness as we basically see Reed try out an early type of force field. Water polo established as Archer's sport of choice. Basketball I could've bought, even if that would've been very predictable and probably no longer played on Earth. Innercity ghettos being ancient history and all by the 22nd Century.

Vox Sola: Creature of the week.
I liked Vox Sola. It might have been a creature of the week but at least it didn't have a bumpy forehead. And we got to see T'Pol and Hoshi working together to save the men.

Killed Unexpected. It's a terrible, sexist episode, really. No reason to keep it around.

Sorry. I'm not quick enough. You quoted me while I was still kind of organising my thoughts with a few edits.

Done now though.

Fusion: Beginning of the Pa'nar syndrome storyline, of which I am not a fan. Also, mind rape. No thanks. I did like the idea of the V'tosh ka'tur, though, and wouldn't have minded seeing that explored further.
