So what are you writing now?

This is for both Trek writers and non-Trek writers who are working on projects we might all be interested in.

I am working on the second short story in my currently-named Commonwealth-Nevaii Universe, though I am looking for something a little jazzier than that.

The first story is an entry in the Jim Baen Writing Competition.

And I have several more lined up at various points in the universe's timeline.

I am working on a series of short stories that deal more realistically with the battles of the Dominion War. The grit, the gore, the loss... A great deal of the horrors were glossed over despite the great efforts of the television writers.

Right now?

I'm scripting an adaptation of John Saul's novel The God Project (All Fall Down in the UK), a double-duology horror comic, and I've just contracted to write the ultimate in-depth guide and analysis book to...

A certain subject which will be announced in the New Year, so I can't tell you yet.

I'm procrastinating starting work on Star Trek: Mirror Universe — Rise Like Lions, and I'm also stalling on outlining my next Vanguard novel and a proposal for a big project after that.

Re: So what are you writing now?

I'm doing minor revisions on a spec novel in preparation for submitting it (well, three chapters and the outline) to an editor for consideration. The novel's been essentially finished for some time, but I recently had an insight that let me tie its concepts together more solidly, so I just had to work it in.

After that, I'm planning on writing a third "Hub" story; I've got an intriguing concept in mind for another (unrelated) short story, though it's very tentative; and I'm trying to get my second spec novel back on track after realizing it wasn't really working as it stood. And there may be some commissioned work in my near future, possibly even before all that, but it's too early to talk about that. I'm between Trek projects at the moment, though I've got some thoughts simmering.

The most recent writing project I finished (more or less) was the annotations for DTI: Watching the Clock, which will go up on my website after the book comes out. They're my longest annotations ever.

Do we fans need to crack the whip?

In all seriousness, if none of the deadlines are looming before the new year, chill out for a week or so and you'll probably feel more like working.

I have the following projects floating around and really need to get my teeth into one of them:
  • 40,000 words of a novel sitting on my hard drive because I have no clue how to reach the climax, or even if what I have works as I wanted it to
  • 4 short stories in an original science fiction universe
  • A rough idea of a plot for the end of the timeline in the original science fiction universe which could cover several full length novels if I knew where I was going with it.

It is seriously frustrating me because I really want to write and I'm having serious trouble getting my behind into gear.

Re: So what are you writing now?

Well, I just started writing what I hope is a short story in the fiction universe. So far I have 500 words and I just started writing the first 3 chapters.

Also tried to write a sci fi screenplay but then I put it aside while making the mistake of doing so in middle of the scene and now I don't remember what I was gonna write but I will go back to it eventually.

Re: So what are you writing now?

A few months ago I started an outline for a story idea I had gotten. I've been planing on working on it some more, but them something else always distracts me. It's an urban fantasy kind of thing along the lines of The Southern Vampire Mysteries or Dresden Files. I'm not sure if I'm ever going to actual do anything with it, I'm pretty much just recording my ideas so that I have them saved somewhere.

Re: So what are you writing now?

I just recently uploaded my third eBook, "Unnatural Time", to Smashwords (available in multiple eBook formats, including for the Kindle and Nook). "Unnatural Time" is the first in a series of stories chronicling the adventures of a retired Grim Reaper named Palequus and his discharged hard-drinking, cigar smoking Cherub sidekick, Peter.

I'm in the middle of writing my next short story for Smashwords, as well as recently finishing the first draft in a psychological horror novelette. I also recently finished and turned in the first draft of my first short story sale, for an upcoming short story collection (to be announced soon).

My Smashwords profile is linked in my signature for anyone interested in checking out my indie work.
