Dear David, Kevin, Dayton, and Marco-- Thank all four of you gentlemen for this story that I have enjoyed so very much for the past six years. I truly mean this when I say this has been, without a doubt, one of the high points of TrekLit. |

Re: Vanguard: Declassified Review Thread
Here's hoping that we get another series that is just as well thought out somewhere down the line. This reminds me of what I keep saying about TV series. Why have a series that goes on for so long that it runs out of steam and gets canned (the equivalent of Shatnerverse or NF perhaps?) instead of having a series that has a definitive endpoint in mind from day one. It is much more satisfying that way and money can be put into different projects instead of one that might not pay off.

Still, it just reenforces the fear I get for the safety of my favorite characters when David Mack is writing. |

Re: Vanguard: Declassified Review Thread
I particularly enjoyed the first story - Almost Tomorrow by Dayton Ward - I don't think I've ever read anything that felt so much like watching the pilot episode of a tv show. Everything in there was pitch-perfect. I even have to wonder whether it was written as the pitch, and this is what made Pocket decide to run with the series. Hard News by Kevin Dilmore has, of course, great stuff for one of my... well, I'd say he's one of my favorite Vanguard characters, but that doesn't narrow the field any. I love them all. Anyways, it's great stuff with Tim Pennington, though I somehow expected there to be more to the story with the junior reporter. I'm not sure what, honestly. The Ruins of Noble Men by Marco Palmieri. I want more from Marco. ASAP. And as for The Stars Look Down... well, as always, damn you, David Mack. Damn you.
