Fact: In an attempt to end the need to constantly disguise the fact that James Doohan was missing a finger, a scene was actually filmed showing "Scotty" losing his finger in an engineering accident. Unfortunately, the scene wound up on the cutting (no pun intended) room floor.

FACT: When the filming for Encounter at Fairpoint started, Levar Burton had pink eye. So they decided to come up with the visor for the scenes at the station as part of some VR recreation. But some writer put it in that Geordi was blind and it stuck.

FACT: Chapel and McCoy's roles as Doctor and Nurse were originally reversed, but NBC executives demanded that Roddenberry change them.

FACT: Future High-Def releases of TNG will feature Beverley Crusher digitally inserted in to Season 2. She will not replace Pulaski; she will replace Worf.

Nichelle Nichols was considering dropping out of Trek after the first season, but a chance encounter with... who told her... made her change her mind.

Re: Make up a fake bit of Trek trivia!

Fact: The USS Enterprise was initially supposed to generate gravity for the crew by having the saucer section constantly rotating. Preliminary model tests, however, revealed the effect on film to be entirely too silly.

If you could prove that, the Federation Temporal Integrity Commission would have to remove you from this century before you went public with it and put you through years of reeducation.

FACT: TOS was mistakenly cut short due to a typo, where "now canceled" was supposed to be "not canceled."
Even though I know this is fake, it still hurt to read that.

FACT: Picard is actually Wesley's father--the result of a few too many drinks when Picard first met Beverly.
My wife and I both whole-heartedly believe that Picard is Wesley's father. Read between some of the lines between Picard and Beverly in the earliest episodes of Season 1.

Fact: Captain Sisko was originally going to appear in Star Trek: First Contact but the writers quickly realised that having him fighting the borg in the film would make the film only be 2 minutes long. Including the credits

FACT: Harry Kim was originally scheduled to be promoted to Lieutenant in the 5th season, but when the subject was brought up in a 4th season staff meeting, the producers said, "who?!"

Oddly, the same comment was made years later when someone suggested Mayweather be given more to do in Enterprise.
