Star Wars: How do I watch the animated shows?

so i've been dying to get into a new sci-fi show now. i'm loving Atlantis and there are still a few more eps i skipped the first time i watched the show.

a few months back now, i saw someone mention how great the 'clone wars' animated show was. i recall seeing it in 2003, but never took the time to watch it. then i heard about another animated show in 2008 and that looked like a completely different show? so i don't know where i should be starting as i'm not aware of which show pre-dates which in terms of story. i'm mainly interested in scenes with robots or battle scenes between different starships. not so much dog fighting between small craft, but battles between large vessels. something similar to the scene in the early part of RoTS where the droid ship fires on the republic's ship.

could anyone help me out?

thanks

^ You can watch the micro-series as they are back to back. The current Clone Wars series is CGI and some events have been ignored from the micro-series, others haven't.

Step 1: Position your head so that your eyes are facing in the direction of the program you wish to watch.

Step 2: Ensure that both pairs of eyelids are retracted so as not to obstruct the line of sight between your eyes and the program as it plays. The eyelids will briefly close over the eyes and retract again every few seconds, but this should not significantly impede the viewing experience.

^ I was going to make a similar comment to what Christopher did but chose not to in this case This is one of few actual posts that ReadyandWilling has made that doesn't warrant a sarcastic comment

^ I already stated what order. Watch the micro-series first then the CGI series. Really though it doesn't matter which i think is what Christopher's point is. Just watch them.

I've already explained to you which to watch first. Stop nitpicking about what to watch and just sit down and watch.

Re: Star Wars: How do I watch the animated shows?

It doesn't really matter what order you watch them in, they sorta cancel each other out. But I prefer the newer one. Start with the 2008 Clone Wars movie, then go on to the series. Its more aimed at younger fans, but it should appeal to all star wars fans. I'm 23 and I love it.
The micro series is fun, but not brilliant.
If you like the prequel movies you will love them both. If you don't like the preqels, just stay away.

Also if you've read the comics or novels set during the Clone Wars, the 'toons largely are in a seperate continuity. For instance, in the books/comics the Mandalorians are sort of proud warrior mercernaries, but in Clone Wars CG the warriors are a small group on a pacifist planet.

Re: Star Wars: How do I watch the animated shows?

The two Clone Wars animated series are best treated as two independent interpretations of the Clone Wars. If anything, the second, 3D-animated series seems to take place between seasons of the earlier, 2D-animated series. The first season or so of the 2D series takes place during Anakin's apprenticeship while he still has his padawan's braid, and we see the ceremony where he becomes a full Jedi. But the final five episodes of the 2D series show the abduction of Palpatine and lead directly into the opening moments of Revenge of the Sith. As for the 3D series, it's set over an unspecified span of time in the middle of the Clone Wars, and jumps wildly around the timeline with little regard for chronological order.

In general, it's best to experience fiction in the order it was produced. There's no reason why a story has to be experienced in chronological order. If it's told out of chronological order, there's usually a good reason for that.
