Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watch?

Just wondering how many Westerners are going to wake up super early to watch the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton live. It takes place next Friday (Apr. 29th) and they are getting married at 11 AM in London... which is really early for the Western world. Lots of American stations are starting coverage at 4 A.M. EST!!! I already told my boss I am gonna skip work that day 'cause I want to watch the wedding really bad. The question is... will I watch it live or repeats later in the day? A big part of me wants to watch it live!!! It's not the same if I just watch a repeat, right? Isn't it kinda like TiVoing the Super Bowl and watching it the next day?

Here is some info on American TV coverage of the big day:
  • ABC -- Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters are at the helm, along with royal historian Robert Lacey. Coverage starts at 4 a.m. April 29. Walters already hosted a "Special Edition of 20/20: William & Catherine: A Modern Fairytale" last Monday, that will be rebroadcast 8 p.m. Thursday. BONUS: Walters has a royal wedding under her belt after covering Diana and Charles' 1981 nuptials, so expect statements such as "That's not what they did the last time," or "In my day..."
  • CBS -- Katie Couric and her "CBS Evening News" will cross the pond mid-week, and will share the news from London, starting Wednesday. Wedding coverage starts at 4 a.m. April 29. BONUS: "Early Show" cohost Erica Hill will pitch in for wedding news as well.
  • NBC --They're sending not one, but at least 10 of their anchors to London for the big celebration. Coverage starts 4 a.m. on the wedding day. Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauerw will throw their weight behind the coverage. Natalie Morales will be reporting live from London today through the wedding. Ann Curry and Al Roker will join the crew on Thursday. Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb will be there April 29. Brian Williams will shoot "NBC Nightly News" from London, and Martin Bashir will handle MSNBC's coverage of the day. Oh and Joe Scarborough, of "Morning Joe" will shoot his show from England all next week. BONUS: Vieira and Lauer will host a behind-the-scenes documentary "Inside the Royal Wedding" 8 p.m. Wednesday.
  • BBC America -- The network will air a commercial-free simulcast of what the BBC network in England will be showing. BONUS: Coverage starts at 3 a.m.
  • Fox News Channel -- Fox brought back Joan Lunden, former ABC "Good Morning America" co-host to help with their wedding coverage. Shepard Smith and Martha McCallum will broadcast live from London next week. Coverage begins at 4 a.m. on the wedding day. BONUS: Lunden covered Charles and Diana's wedding in 1981. She's been filing reports from London for a month that will air the day of the wedding. Fox also claims to be using Paul Burrell, Princess Diana's former butler. A "Countdown to the Royal Wedding" special will air Sunday on the network.
  • CNN -- Piers Morgan, Anderson Cooper, Richard Quest and Kiran Chetry will host the coverage. BONUS: Piers Morgan is a Brit! "So You Think You Can Dance" host Cat Deeley will also be there (I'm stumped on that one).
  • Disney Channel -- Disney isn't missing a beat with the Princess theme. "A Modern Fairytale: The Royal Wedding Week" starts next week. BONUS: Kids can get in on the fun with fairytale-themed movies. Starting Monday, they'll show "Enchanted" and "Aladdin."
  • TLC -- The network is planning live, yes live, wedding coverage. BONUS: Watch a "Say Yes to the Dress: Princess Brides Special" 9 o'clock tonight. That's the tip of the iceberg, with 16 wedding-themed shows set to air this week. Chops to TLC for booking the jumbotrons in Times Square to show off their wedding coverage.
  • Lifetime -- "Royal Wedding of a Lifetime" started this week with a six-part series of all the makings of this fairytale wedding. (Think VH1's "Fabulous Life of..." on a regal scale). BONUS: Lifetime put together a two-hour movie "William & Kate" that premiered Monday and will be shown frequently until the wedding day. That took some serious hustle to get that done in a scant six months. (I got sucked into it. It's a little cheesy, but good.)
  • E! -- The wedding will be shown live with host Giuliana Rancic.
  • Telemundo -- Spanish-speaking viewers can get the lowdown on the ceremony.
  • BRAVO -- "Watch What Happens Live: Royal Wedding Spectacular" will air 11 p.m. Thursday. Andy Cohen will host, joined by Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, a "Real Housewives of New York" star, and Cat Ommanney, a British member of the D.C. version of the show.
  • Reelz Channel -- The little channel that could will also offer up live wedding coverage.
Post Wedding Blitz
  • TV Guide Channel -- Comedian Kathy Griffin will offer up her take on the day's events post-wedding.
  • NBC -- Ann Curry will host a 9 p.m. "instant documentary" about the wedding for "Dateline NBC."
  • ABC -- Barbara Walters will recap the events in a two-hour "20/20."
  • CBS -- "The Royal Wedding: Modern Majesty" will offer Katie Couric's take on the day.
Here is the web-site that I got that coverage info from.

I'm so excited!!

Honestly?

I couldn't care less. I think monarchy is ridiculous and stupid. And when a royal from some other country comes to visit my country (which is a republic) I get pissed because we have to waste money on welcoming the useless royal.

Do we really have to show respect to somebody whose greatest achievement was to be born into the right family?

The elected (!) politicians of my country have to waste their time talking to some random monarch? Srsly?!

Ha! I'm so sick of hearing about it!

It's on my birthday! It's completely ridiculous.

That being said, yes, I will. I'll be drinking a whole lot of caffeine to stay up on my birthday. But still, I did love Princess Diana, and I love how Prince William has handeled this.

Quite right.

Does anyone believe this is even real? Meaning, this wasn't arranged beforehand? That's what royals love to do.

Who's getting married again? I don't think I have heard about this.

But seriously, I have no interest what-so-ever. These big celebrity weddings are just empty ways of getting attention and selling magazines, newspapers and tv ad time. The only way I would be curious about this nuptial is if one of them turned out to be an alien or Kate is really a Carl in drag. If it was his man nipple licking brother getting hitched I might pay more attention but I couldn't promise anything there either.

I won't be watching it, though I do wish William and Kate the very best and a bright future for the both of them.

They're a likable couple, but I don't even want to get up early to watch my FRIENDS get married!!! The monarchy seems pretty archaic to me.

Well, in a sense it is a little more than just another celebrity wedding, as William will probably be King someday, so Kate will be his Queen.

That said, I don't particularly care, even though I am a bit of a monarchist myself.

Is that for certain? The spouse of a king isn't automatically a queen (or vice versa), AFAIK.

I mean, why is the Queen's husband (Philip) only a prince?

Because if she had made him King Philip she would have lost her power.

It's battle of the sexes.

When William becomes king, Kate will most likely become Queen because he would still be in power.

^ Why would William keep his power (if Kate is made queen), but Queen Elizabeth would have lost hers by making Philip king?
