Yes, and calling it a "jihad".

Re: The Jihad vs. The Lorelei Signal

I've not been able to watch through my TAS boxset for a while and when I do, my daughter inevitably asks for the "Woman episode"

Side note, as well as being thoroughly entertained by The Lorelei Signal, she also suggested during Kirk's "To Boldy Go..." recently that women might also boldy go too

But the last time I watched The Jihad, I enjoyed it more than a lot of live action TOS episodes. If we're not doing desert island episodes, and I don't have to deny my daughter her women's episode, I'd vote for The Jihad.

What I meant was, I wonder whether the Dune series, being so prominent in science fiction, Dune winning the Hugo and Nebula and all, had any influence specifically on Stephen Kandel's usage of the term when writing that particular episode.
Much MORE likely is the 1973 Yom Kippur War--which Sadat labeled a Jihad--influencing Kandel.

Where did this term originate??? I have never found this out.

I suspected it might be something like that, but I wasn't sure if jihadist rhetoric was a major thing in Mideast affairs prior to the Iranian Revolution. (And if it only came from Sadat, it would've been just rhetoric, since he wasn't a member of the ulama (clergy) and thus had no authority to declare jihad.)

My best guess is that it's a variant on "in memory yet green," which apparently means memory that remains fresh and vivid (and positive?) even after a long time.
