Very saddened to hear of McQ's passing - he was truly an inspiration to an entire generation of artists and fans. Much of what visual science fiction is today is because of his immense talent.

RIP, McQ .

Re: R.I.P. Ralph McQuarrie

His passing has sadden me to no end. As a teenage, while other guys had half naked women hanging on their wall, I had Ralph McQuarrie Star Wars prints hanging on mine (okay, I had some half naked women too.) His art went beyond simple pre-production art and I believe that it had a huge impact on our love of Star Wars. He will be missed!

I'll be honest, I thought he died some years ago. I'm happy he lived longer than I thought he had.

I too had some McQuarrie prints on my wall as a teenager.

This has got to be one of my favorite paintings of all time ever:

His stuff for Star Wars and Jedi was pretty awesome, but his work on Empire truly shined.

Ralph McQuarrie will certainly be missed...

I have the massive Art of Ralph McQuarrie book, and it's worth seeking out if you really want a larger sense of his career and work.

I enjoyed his Planet of the Titans Enterprise. I wished it could have been fleshed out more, beyond the study models Ken Adam had done.
