Faora is not a variation of Ursa, she's her own character. Ursa was based on Faroa.

Smallville recently used her as Zod's wife.

I don't think that's been the case recently in the comics.

Anyway, I'm very curious about who they cast for the other roles like Perry White and Jimmy Olsen. I remember back when they were casting Superman Returns and Hugh Laurie was cast as White but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts. I think he'd be terrific in the role.

^ Actually JA that's precisely the case in the recent comics. Geoff Johns retconned them all back into the current comics. Non was given a back story as being Jor-El's mentor who was lobotomized by the Council. He brought to their attention first that the planet was in danger. Jor-El continued his work. All three were major facets of the New Krypton storyline.

Well I'm pretty sure Donner only came up with the names Ursa and Non because they were easier to pronounce and sounded a bit more menacing than the original comic book versions. No real mystery there.

And in either case, I doubt it's going to make much of a difference to the regular moviegoing audience. She'll just be another evil female Phantom Zone villain to them.
