EXCLUSIVE: Casting Search For Superman Begins

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros, producer Chris Nolan, and director Zack Snyder have begun to cast a "wide net" to find the next Man of Steel. Insiders tell us the studio is open to creating a star as it reboots the Superman franchise: specifically, that the actor will either be a discovery or on TV but likely someone who isn't well known yet. And he'll be in the age range of 28-to-32. The studio expects to look at hundreds of young actors before making a decision. Agents who are readying candidates note that hiring an established series regular might not even be possible. The film will likely begin production around next June, and that shooting schedule could wreak havoc with fall prime time schedules. The studio has to meet that production start date because some of the rights are in jeopardy in 2013.

Still doesn't feel right that Brandon didn't get a second chance. He's even bulked up a bit.

Routh doesn't have the swimmer/model frame anymore. He's like Tom Welling now.

I'm actually not caring so much about this now. Let's see if it's worth following when some things - casting, design, etc. - actually start to happen.

It does rule out Welling, who is 33 and well-known. And for these purposes, Routh definitely qualifies as well-known. (Ironically, Routh, who played the adult Superman, is two and a half years younger than Welling, who plays the "boy" Clark Kent.)

Matt Bomer, whom I've thought would be a good choice, is also 33 (6 months shy of Welling's age), so if those numbers are strict, it seems he'd be ruled out too.

Joe Manganiello is too craggy, Tyler Winklevoss is too Hermann Munstery, Ian Somerhalder is too petite and Armie Hammer would be wasted on a straight-up role like Supes. He'd make a much better villain.

Damn, I just thought of something! Armie Hammer should have been Anakin Skywalker in those dumb movies!

I have yet to hear the name of an actor rumored by the media or proposed by the internet that I'd really like to see as Clark Kent/Superman.
I don't have a name to propose myself, though I was with the crowd that wouldn't mind Routh returning.

I'm curious to see what they'll end up doing with this movie.
