Syfy letting viewers create new original movie ideas for 2011 film

SyFy is crowdsourcing an original SyFy movie idea starting Friday June 25.
Ever think that you could make a flick craptacular enough to light up the Syfy Channel?
I'm sure this ought to be fun.

Syfy is partnering with IGN.com to launch B Movie Mogul, which will serve as a clearinghouse of ideas, allowing users to vote on everything from the genre....to costumes, dialogue, and casting. The results will be shot and aired next year as a Syfy original movie.
The first stage will have fans voting on one of three overall concepts for the movie: a 2010 apocalypse story, a Bermuda Triangle-set creature feature or a Roswell, N.M.-set alien movie.

They've already ruined it.

Yeah, so much for "original".

I wanted washed up 80's pop stars to battle vampire squirrels in a post-apocalyptic New Jersey (Which is slightly nicer than current NJ. )

How about trying to crowdsource a good movie?

Out of curiosity - and I really have no idea - has Syfy ever done a genuinely fun and decent original movie?

And yeah, those choices are crap. If they're going to make terrible movies, why not make some original terrible movies?

Not that I know of... just some miniseries.

I don't think very many SyFy Original Movies are actually made by SyFy -- they're just the first to air a lot of them.

That being said, putting together ideas for such movies is easy!

What's in the news? Oil spill.

What's been affected by the oil spill? Wildlife.

Add some adjectives...

Oil Spill Uprising: Attack of the Rabid Pelicans, starring Richard Grecio, Robert Beltran and Martika.

Or how about Illegal Aliens vs. Radioactive Gator?

You need to combine two species to make a good SyFy movie. Peligators: Death from Above.

Bingo. Only a million times better than the options above!

Needs more wrestling and reality tv. Might even need some John Edwards.

I've got it! Mothman, the Sharktopus, and a Mongolian Death Worm move into a flat in Bristol and try to live a normal life. Hilarity ensues.

?

Some of them are definitely better than others. I admit to a fondness for WARBIRDS. Pterodactyls versus World War II fighter aces! That one was done with a certain degree of flair.

It's all a matter of execution. You can make a "killer iguana rampage" movie that's a fun Saturday night diversion, or you can end up with a mega-iguana movie that's absolutely unwatchable . . . even if you're in the mood for a schlocky monster movie.

And they frequently air a pretty good remake of THE DUNWICH HORROR, which is actually better and more genuinely Lovecraftian than the misbegotten Sandra Dee version from the sixties . . . .

Lorenzo Lamas and Elizabeth Berkley star in "Showgirls vs. Shark-Squirrels"

Busta Rhymes and Michael Biehn in "Alien Hoodrat X-Terminators"

Traci Lords and Danny Trejo in "Barrio Burrowers: The Bugs Below"

To be fair, John Edwards hasn't been on SyFy for years and years now . . . .

I think the statute of limitations has expired on that one!
