Deep space 9 books, what the heck??? (A ZSG spoiler)

Ok, again my apologies for being a little, ok ALOT clueless about DS9 books. It seems I have much to catch up on. So I am just starting ZSG and there are several references to DS9 characters and promotions, Ro is a CAPTAIN? Kira a CAPTAIN and attack? looking at the list of DS9 books, what is the order of those? I see gateways is from a series of books, and then there is Mission Gamma1-4 and a couple of other sets of books in the relaunch. After Rouge: Abyss what would be the next book to fall in line? Thanks, Kevin

Ro being a Captain, Kira being a Captain, and the attack you mention - all these happen after the end of those books.

There is a six-year gap between The Soul Key and Zero Sum Game, and most of the things that Zero Sum Game talks about involving the Deep Space Nine characters happen AFTER The Soul Key. All the things you said surprised us too!

It is new backstory, written to fill in the six-year gap.

BUT, the books that Almost Unique listed are definitely all awesome

I would add Andrew J. Robinson's brilliant A Stitch In Time to the start of the list. It was published before the post-finale series began, but is part of its continuity - and a fantastic book besides (comprising Garak's reflections on his life). A Stitch In Time is actually one of my favorite novels, Star Trek or otherwise.

Sorry; my mistake. I had just responded to the other thread where someone mentioned that the dialogue implied Kira wasn't a Captain anymore, but neglected to finish their sentence, and THAT is definitely something new.

Actually, I believe that The Soul Key concludes in 2377, while Zero Sum Game begins in mid-2382, a gap of five years. Perhaps of interest, Rough Beasts of Empire takes place in its entirety prior to Zero Sum Game.

^ Weird. Given the setup in Zero Sum Game, that's not at all what I'd have expected.

So, is Typhon Pact intended to be like Section 31, in that it can be read in any order, or is there a particular reason they're published this way? Or would answering that be giving too much away?

^ IIRC, the publication order was changed for promotional reasons - because David Mack wrote Destiny.

They're all self-contained books that can be read in any order or quantity one wishes. The publication order is fairly arbitrary.

The publication order was changed because I was the first one to finish my book. They can be read in any order.

Excellent...as most of the game players are participating in this thread, I'll ask the question I as I'm sure several others of us are dying to know.

When the relaunch resumes will it be after ZSG or Soul Key?

I know that at any given time one can go backward or forward, but from a franchise point of view I would think that we are on the figurative precipice for the series. If the follow up to the Typhon Pact series does not go back to 2377 I can't see Pocket going back...if they haven't already shut that door

I don't think that's been decided yet, what with all the editorial upheavals of the past couple of years.
