Re: Minecraft

Its a damn shame they still don't regenerate wool over time. Which means you pretty much have to kill your sheep as soon as you sheer them.

Ohhh found some Blaze's earlier today. They make the most amazing sounds.

Re: Minecraft

Well, it's typical of Notch to release a feature that feels incomplete. Tons of the things promised for 1.8/1.9/1.0 seem to be done in stages, such as the villages in 1.8, and the NPCs in 1.9, and the NPCs don't do a thing yet. Apparently it's going to be yet another update before they get to do anything, even though the latest update was the one touted as the big adventure update. A bunch of those things just seem incomplete.

Re: Minecraft

They postponed their work on the NPCs because they just hired an AI specialist that wont start working there until next month, so he'll be the one in charge of that. I assume he'll be updating the AI of all the mobs in the game, so the monsters will probably be more challenging and wolves will stop committing suicide.

Re: Minecraft

I'm starting to get nostalgic for the old damage sounds. The new ones are pretty brutal for how lighthearted Minecraft is.

Yeah, I agree. I dislike the damage sounds. Everytime I hear it, I keep wondering what's going on as it just sounds so out of place

Re: Minecraft

I think we just need to get used to the new sound is all. You gotta admit, at least its fairer to all the folks out there who play female characters.

Actually what I'd like to have is the ability to install your own custom sound packs. I REALLY want an 'Om Nom Nom' sound when I eat.

Oh and finally, I'd just like to say, PUMPKIN SEEDS! WHOOOO!

Re: Minecraft

Notch started it!

Well, he did. What he said about the Yogscast may well be true, but it should have been dealt with privately rather than bad-mouthing them on Twitter. Also, from what I've read there seems to have been a series of issues with Minecon that made it less than enjoyable for some of the attendees.

Re: Minecraft

The problem for me isn't what Notch said/not said (he didn't say much, and only said things when people wanted clarification, which he gave). And the co-founder agreed on the initial tweet, which seems to have been totally forgotten.

It's the fanboyism on both sides that gets me. But it's the same in every fandom (and I consider Minecraft to have a fandom nowadays). I just don't want to read it.

I admit that I unsubbed Yogscast recently, but not for this. I subscribe on a lot of people who I don't really watch anymore, and it was time to clear some of them out (I'm down to 71 now). Still need to trim the sub box more, though.

Re: Minecraft

I found the fanboyism very interesting. First everyone was confused, then they sided with the Yogscast, then they sided with Notch, then they sided with the Yogscast again. It effectively showed how people's opinions can be swayed using just a few words. It was like a validation of the ideas put forth in Life of Brian.

As for the Yogscast, their best stuff was in the beginning when they were actually playing the game, now it's mostly custom maps and stuff like that. I don't see the point of playing Minecraft if you can't place or destroy blocks, you're just playing a really buggy adventure game.

Re: Minecraft

I agree in part. I do love the CTM-style maps, though (Complete The Monument, most often 16 pieces of wool) pioneered by Vechs: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...ies-%E2%98%A0/ There you can break blocks and do whatever you want to succeed.

Starting up 2 of them on my Youtube-channel now when 1.0 finally are out (that makes 4 series totally, the two CTM-maps, my regular "Let's Play" and my "Hardcore"-playthrough (is on my second world there after meeting a skeleton spawner in a ravine at the end of episode 1 of my first season.. )

Re: Minecraft

Eh, to me it comes across like Yogscast felt entitled to something. Personally I've never been a fan of theirs. I felt their style was annoying with the shrill voices. They should be thanking Notch that Minecraft has made them famous. At least he started a Con in Vegas for fans to gather. From what I gather, they were teed off that they weren't being paid for attending. I'm sure anyone would say that they did this willingly and weren't dragged off to attend. I'm sure this incident has made Notch reconsider about having another one in the future.

Re: Minecraft

I have no thoughts on the matter myself. Yogscast may be entitled idiots (after all, not the first time fame have gotten too much for anyone), or there may be an misunderstanding or something.

What I don't like is the escalation the fanboys (on all sides) makes it. They do make it a lot worse (after all, I don't think the first, or the second, tweet is especially inflaming.)

Notch shouldn't have said anything at all of course, but I do get the feeling that he had to apologize (and he didn't say who they were in that first tweet, he just apologized and the co-founder of the company agreed on that tweet). And then the "fans" have to inflame everything.

I must admit I would really laugh if everything just was a big troll (from both sides) for the next "Shadow of Israphel" where Notch (the real Notch) turns out to be the big bad or something. It's quite strange that Yogscast have to make a video response after all, and have to have several days to make it.

Re: Minecraft

I was going to mention the Yogscast thing a couple days ago, but wasn't sure if anyone else here watches them.

I guess I'm a semi fan. They tend to be a little too silly for me a lot of the time, though I still enjoy their adventure map let's play vids.
I've never gotten the impression though that they felt entitlled, to anything or had attitudes. Hell they even did that goofy interview clip with Notch were they just geeked at each other for twenty minutes. So to be honest, my theory is that they're all just pranking the community, and that when they finally release a statement, it'll be something along the lines of "Gotcha!" Even if it is true, I'm inclined to blame it on too much to drink and not enough sleep over a con weekend.

The one unfortunate thing about all this is the fan war thats broken out. It sucks that its taking Yogscast this long to get home and tell their side. I just hope they aren't met at the airport by a bunch of hostile fans.
