Re: Your latest purchases, cont.

Video editing and 3D rendering specifically...

when video editing, Premier Pro can burn upto 8gb easily just for a soft render, hitting upto 10gb if it's allowed during a full render... add in 3D rendered components on top of that for a run through, and it could easily hit 16gb needed...

Love the patio set!
Thanks! It's an apartment so it's not really private, but I think they've done a good job in trying to make it private. Can't wait till my husband gets back and we can sit out in the evening with a glass of wine.

Four different types of medicine to deal with the cold I've had for two weeks. Yuck.

I had other shopping plans today but I was too worn out after the first dose to do anything but sleep.

The Seeker, I wish I'd bought the full frame 5D Mark II instead from the beginning, then I would have been able to switch to the monster lenses eventually when I'm ready. As it is, there's not much point, as my model won't be able to make full use of lenses like that. No way I can a afford a new body AND a new lense, too right now... ah well, one can continue dreaming and drooling.

I really wanted the 5D but at the moment it's really out of my price range.

Re: Your latest purchases, cont.

the 5D mark II is a damn hot camera... absolutely love mine, though i will admit, i find myself using the 7D more and more lately...

while the 5D has the advantage of the full frame sensor, the 7D is a much faster camera to work with... it had advantages across the board, from a 19 point AF system, faster frame rate, faster lenses, faster focusing, better movie control... all in all, i actually prefer using the 7D for every day photos and work...

the 5D's full frame sensor is the only thing that really makes it stand out against the 7D... without that, it's simply a reasonable camera but pretty slow with most things... For example, even taking the F-stop down as low as you can, you're still not going to be able to accurately capture 'freeze frame' moments for action or movement, the full frame sensor just doesn't work like that... it's absolutely fantastic for portrait or landscape shots, but any hint of movement in the frame and your entire focus system and shot goes out the window altogether...

All in all, i'd highly recommend the 5D for portrait and still life shots, the full frame sensor is above and beyond the rest when it comes to that style of photography...

But if you're looking to capture sports, movement or anything where focus and lens speed are important to you, then go with the 7D

Bah, I think I'll stick with my Zenit... I've developed an allergy against digital cameras.

Re: Your latest purchases, cont.

I mean, if you want to meet all your needs, you'll decide the 600D is nice and light, and the 7D for this, the 5D for that, then there are the differing lenses and attachments... it just doesn't stop does it?! A real enthusiast is going to be milked to within an inch of their life...

When will they invent a camera that does everything well and isn't the size of a kitchen sink and twice as heavy? No one will ever buy anything again then, and that won't do, will it...

Re: Your latest purchases, cont.

roflol true...

if i had what i wanted, i'd actually be going for a Hasselblad H4D... those are the things of dreams, literally...

if you think full frame is impressive, check the Hasselblad range of cameras... these are things to drool over and dream about lol

they're beyond full frame or 'HD', and have been for some time now. They use a style called 'Medium Format'... i won't bore you with the technical spec of this as it's pretty in depth, you can wander over here if you really want...

To put it blunty though, a medium format BODY alone will set you back over £10,000... add on lenses, back and other equipment, and you're heading into the £20,000 just for start up very quickly.

I've heard of these, I've tried not to look too closely into it for fear of loss of life due to too much drooling. I try to never -ever- think about them, so I can be happy with my little one, and smile and stroke that.

Re: Your latest purchases, cont.

roflol... medium format is great for printing and stupidly high detail... i know of a few porn sites and publications that solely use medium format for some reason lmao...

typically though, the camera doesn't matter... i've seen absolutely amazing pictures taken with a £100 'point and click' camera, and likewise seen absolute shite taken with a full DSLR with amazing lens... if the person behind the viewfinder can't take a good photo, or doesn't have the creativity in them, then the most expensive equipment in the world won't make up for it...

Agreed totally. Some of the best photos I've seen on Flickr were taken with an iphone by like a 13 year old.

You know what they say about photos, mate. Only half of it is skill. The rest is opportunity.
