Weyoun and "In the Cards"

OK...I normally have NO sympathy for Vorta whatsoever. But I was wondering about something in the episode "In the Cards."

Right before Jake and Nog are kidnapped to the Dominion ship, they're being sent back to their quarters because they claimed they were drunk when they approached Kai Winn. After they're returned, we don't hear a single word about that...sure, Sisko's grateful to know that his son is safe (and that he's got this prized baseball card), but I still think we should have heard something about the lengths Jake and Nog went to, in doing something to tick off the Dominion and Bajor at the same time, on a "drunken" whim.

Or should we have?

Could it be, that in the spirit of unusual benevolence that just about everyone had in that episode, that Weyoun, cheered up by Giger's screwball theories, actually told Sisko and Winn both what happened and why ("No, they weren't trying to create a diplomatic incident, they were just trying to get a gift for Captain Sisko."), and got Jake and Nog out of the doghouse? We know he certainly had the opportunity and the motive to be talking to both of them on more official business during that episode--could it be he said something? And that maybe, to cheer Jake up, Sisko just acted surprised when he actually got the card?

(This wouldn't have spoiled EVERYTHING Jake and Nog did, which would still leave the "mystery" of the cheerful station, for Sisko's log entry. But Sisko WOULD have known that Jake and Nog never got drunk, Kai Winn would've made nice about the whole thing, and Weyoun would have shown everyone that they weren't lying about Giger's existence.)

Given the kiss-ass that Weyoun tends to be if he thinks he can get something out of someone, I actually think that it might not have been so out-of-character!

Yeah, I can see him doing something like that. At that point he was trying his best to show that he could be friendly with everyone, that the Dominion was trustworthy, etc... so yeah.

Problem with Weyoun is that he was always such a slimy git, you would never know what he was really doing and would believe you him? Hell, if I was his ally I would not trust him.

Yeah, he was a bastard--but who knows, maybe his troops did a physical exam when they captured Nog and Jake. Maybe he could prove if they'd been drinking in recent days or not.

But I actually think he might've just done a rare "kind" act, even if the object was to score brownie points with Sisko and Winn by getting them out of a potentially embarrassing jam (and thus secure eternal gratitude for the Dominion).

Well... if Weyoun came clean, he'd have to admit to kidnapping Jake and Nog... and that couldn't go over well no matter the outcome.

My guess is that once they got the card, Jake owned to his dad that they were trying to cover up their true motives (getting the card) by saying they were drunk, and I do think Sisko would've believed that. And even if not, it's not like Sisko has been a super conservative person...

I can't personally see Weyoun having that conversation with Sisko... without being punched...

I don't know how he wouldn't have had to, given the transporter signature and the fact that if Sisko had looked for them, he would've gotten the "not on Deep Space Nine" message. And obviously punching Weyoun would be very, VERY bad for diplomatic relations at that point...

Sisko didnt need Weyoun to tell him. They would hav explained once they gave him the card.

One of my favourite ds9 episodes.

Re: Weyoun and "In the Cards"

^Yep.

Still...I find it amusing that Weyoun--a "trained" Vorta, who has no "asthetic" sense--would care about Giger's machine....

Nonetheless, I love the ep. My personal favorite--Julian Bashir's monologue about Leeta's "borrowing" of Kukalaka.

"Leeta borrowed him...she said he was cute...and she never...brought him...back."

Sounds like Leeta, all right.

The entire debacle with Nog sneaking in to get the bear back is awesome too. And of course, the icing on the cake...the brief moment at the end, with Leeta tearing her room apart, looking for the bear!

Sheesh, Leeta...did you start to think he was yours?

Yet if they had told how they got it, I don't see how Sisko would've been left with the "mystery" in his final log entry.

Yes, but would that stop him?

The Andorian mining consortium need not explain itself to anyone! Wait... wrong spin off...

In a case THAT critical? Yes, I think Sisko had enough restraint.
