Rene Echevarria is attached to this? Wasn't he one of the producers and writers of TNG and DS9 back in the day?

Oh, no. Cameron's worst movie? That disgusting piece of sexist crap, where the "hero" misappropriates government resources to abduct and then psychologically and sexually terrorize his wife and it's treated as a comedy? I do not want to see a continuation of that story.
Cameron's misjudgment was all the more bizarre given the strong female characters he's shown in Aliens, T2 and even Titanic and Avatar.

Having said that, I did enjoy the action sequences in True Lies though it's hard to see why on earth it's being revived now.

True Lies was possibly the only thing that I didn't hate Tom Arnold in. Meh, I doubt this series will ever happen anyway.

Ugh. I'd care even less about such a show than I do about T:SCC.

As much as I liked the movie. This aspect always bugged me too.

And why make a TV series off of a 16 year old movie?

Umm...that could have been said of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" as well or anything else that gets turned into a tv show. People are interested and studio execs think people will watch it.

I haven't seen that movie for 16 years. Not only did I find the "kidnap and mentally torture your wife" subplot despicable, it was excruciatingly boring. If I had the patience to watch it again, it would only be to evaluate if you could get a halfway decent film by excising the offending sequence. I assume that a TV show would be a reboot rather than a continuation -- that might only serve to insult the viewer over several hours rather than 30 minutes or so.

^ I can't imagine it will be a sequel. I would have thought it'll be an action comedy in similar vein, about a married couple who juggle everyday with life with their alter-ego lives as all-action spies. They may or may not retain the names of the Arnie and Jamie Lee characters but it's unlikely that it's meant to be the same people 16 years later.

And were people really clamoring to see Jamie Lee Curtis do a striptease?

No, we already saw her knockers in Trading Places.

^ Hasn't she just posed naked for some magazine for the elderly?

Edit - apparently not. The magazine altered the pic to make it look like she had, but she was merely in a strapless dress.
