Kings of Leon Music Will NOT Be On Glee

The Grammy award winning band refused to license their popular music for the use of the hit dramedy show. The reason behind the refusal? The Kings are determined not to “sell out.” But there are no hard feelings toward the show itself; Followill added that even though he’s never seen an episode of the musical TV show, "apparently everybody loves it."

Followill continued to say:

We had some people call us up wanting to know if we’d allow ‘Use Somebody’ to appear in the trailer for their next movie, and we turned them down. Next day, they called back and tried to put us through to the star of the movie — I won’t name names, but he’s an incredibly famous actor — to let him try to convince us to agree to do it. I was like, 'Man, don’t even waste your energy.’

In my world there would be no music on Glee.

Although I like the idea of the show, and some of the covers that I've heard from it, I agree with Kings Of Leon.

They're signed to a contract with a GIANT entertainment conglomerate, they;ve already sold out.

I'm sure GLEE will get along just fine without these guys.

That's what I find interesting in this whole thing. "We won't sell out!" ... <whisper>..."to anyone other than this huge record company".

Couldn't they just have said we don't want to license our music out?

Because clearly they have already sold out and acting like they haven't is stupid.

Or they truly believe they didn't sell out by signing up with a record company in which case they're just plain morons.,

You're only selling out if it's for Ford, or for Clairol shampoo.

There's selling out, and then there's signing to a record company. If you keep your integrity intact as well as your values when you're signed to one of the Big Four (Universal, EMI, Sony, Warner) then it won't really be a problem. The only thing is not letting your music be prostituted, and Kings Of Leon are making sure that won't happen by not having their songs used in commercials, or on Glee.

Then just say "we don't want to license out our music" why even mention "selling out" that just makes them sound ridiculous. IMO.

They should have just said, "we don't want our music used on a show for puffs and lasses" that always goes down well.

Maybe they just don't want the ego crush from when the Glee version of their song outsells the original?
