Here's hoping they bring back a more organic look for the TARDIS. The TARDIS should look like it's alive, like it's grown.

I wonder if this one is still floating around in there.

Otherwise, I wouldn't mind the McGann version making a comeback.

The only thing I liked about the fifth-season console room was the "fresnel lens" ceiling, which was a nice tip of the hat to a hanging fixture from the earliest Hartnell episodes.

I'm sorry to hear this. I think the current "magpie" look fits very well with Matt Smith's Doctor. Hopefully they'll just find ways to open it up without changing the console or the feel of the space.

I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen.

^ Yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll keep the overall look of the room but just tweak some of the wibbly-wobbly angles and a few bits here and there to accommodate ease of filming.

And whatever became of that console design contest (from Blue Peter?)? Was that the one we saw in "The Lodger?"

I tend to think they're going to get rid of that glass flooring and place the console area on the same level as the TARDIS doors. I believe the walls and overall scheme will remain the same, but I think they'll make things more on one floor and create more filming space around the console myself--the end result could be a TARDIS console room with a very tall cathedral-like ceiling if the height of the set remains the same, though...

If I understand you correctly that means that the cast will be walking down to the console area.

The swiss cheese/holes in the floor will be gone. No one will injure themselves by falling. The black water in the center would be gone.

Re: New TARDIS interior next year? What?

actually I kinda liked the swiss cheese flooring, they should keep that, and the glass console control center, and then make the walls look like the floor underneath with the roundels massive like the floor holes.. then the focal point of the interior would be the central console, and the colour of the walls would brighten the place up more, and make the central section stand out better.. this could easily be done to the set over lapping the original by using that spray foam stuff over a quickly constructed wooden frame.. and set in place in replacement of the old set..

then the inside would be very plain, and yet interesting, easier to shoot, and with the plain look going on, it would certainly be reminiscent of the originals in that way..

see how it has a pale greenish colour to it, that would be great and off set the central console easier, and that style and colour could be reproduced throughout the ship like that was done in Castrovalva..the roundels in the walls would be a bit deeper, but lit up like the old school style, and they could still keep the massive round TV screen..

that is my suggestion anyway.. it would be cheaper to do it that way and still look funky and alien and yet more of a homage to the classic look..

oh and those coral bits sticking out here and there could remain as if the wall was constructed around the coral..with the bits showing here and there..

bottom line, I like the new console, I like the glass floor and the underneath fluid links section, and I like the massive round view screen.. it is the rest of the console room that is just too busy looking and dark in colour.. it needs to be less busy, and more plain with only a basic bright colour and the coral bits here and there.. this will make the room easier to shoot lighting wise, and yet retain style and keeps the console from having to be reworked, which would cost mucho mula..

Could be, or they could simply have it be at the same level with the outer doors as the previous TARDIS set (which also had a lower level, just like the current one, but was covered with more flooring around the console for the cast and production crew than they do presently).
The swiss cheese/holes in the floor will be gone. No one will injure themselves by falling. The black water in the center would be gone.
Yeah. They don't really use it that much anyway, do they? Maybe the primary goal is to just get rid of the glass floor and replace it with something that isn't so reflective and allows more room and better angles for the cameras to work with...

The episode in which it was going to be used (probably Neil Gaiman's) was delayed until next year's series, so it'll show up then.

Re: New TARDIS interior next year? What?

I thought it was to be used in"The Lodger" but the scene was cut, or the Doctor ended up with the "modern art" thingy instead.

I do like the current control room, except for the sprayed-on foam walls and the completely mismatched grey wall. I think they're only tweaking the set to reduce reflections and open up better camera angles - this set has no "wild" walls that can be moved, but its overall size seems to preclude the need for much of that. They'll probably clean up certain set pieces as well so they can shoot from more conventional angles and not have to worry about the studio or recording equipment beyond being visible - this has happened at least twice in the recent series and I'm sure that they have to compensate regularly to avoid low shots seeing the lighting rig, or high shots seeing the reflections of the cameras and lights.

My concern here is that the money they'll use to fix any problems will prevent us from seeing any new rooms of the TARDIS, which has been sorely lacking in the new show. Not that we need it much given the format of the show, but we've gone six years being told that the TARDIS is absolutely enormous, and we've only ever seen one room apart from the console room since 2005.

The consoles okay, its the wierd mis-matched walls that go off at all angles that bug me. Honestly I still can't figure out what the damn room looks like.

I'm still curious if that dragon mural you could see in the "Amy' Choice" confidential was part of the studio, or actually on the set and we just never saw it during an episode.
